Title: Fabia Vrs..lost all boost help?
Post by: EuanGtTdi on 12 December 2010, 20:10
Hey people,

got my new car fabia vrs 130pd sorry its off topic but wasnt sure were to post this!

thing is driving home last night i acceraterd off the slip road onto the bypass and next i started hearing a loud howling noise/whistleing noise like when you blow through a bit paper, i would pulled over and ive lost all boost like theres no turbo at all only revs and drives to 2000rpm making this noise! i drove it 5 miles home and it didnt use any oil and when i start and turn car off the turbo turns off and can hear it spool up when start up, when got home the loud noise had gone but still no turbo/boost

anyone shed any light what think it could be?

Thanks Euan

You've either popped a boost pipe or worst case is I assume your turbo has given up the will to live

Notice any black smoke when this started happening?

I hope its my former suggestion and not the latter........

If you can hear the turbo spool up, then a boost leak is more than likely the problem.

driven home in the dark with car lights behind me rhys there was no clouds of black reek or smoke, also the engine would i no need to stall the engine likes when yours went if it was my turbo mate?

Depends if it starts sucking on the engine oil like mine did.  If you turn the engine off and its still revving then engage a gear and let the clutch out.  Its the scariest thing I've heard and I was thankful for a chap who stopped to help as I didn't know what to do

But as Slick says, if you can hear the turbo spool when you start the engine then its a boost leak   Strange you didn't get clouds of black smoke mind unless its a very small leak  :undecided:

It would normally make quite a loud sound when a small leak, assumming it is a leak. If you blew a pipe off it would be a noticeable gulp of air.

The engine being limited rev wise would be the exhaust gas backing up and choking the engine.

if my egr was away or stuck would this cause any of this by any chance?

just i couldnt quite tell were the noise was coming from but sounded about the egr area mate

Away, not sure what you mean by that?

Stuck... yes quite possibly, if it was stuck closed then you would get a similar symptom.

I always thought it would only puff plumes of smoke out if the leak was before the MAP sensor. Check the red pipe and the pancake.

garage checked it today and came back a code something like 17664 and the code is turbo charger boost pressure valve not reached i think it was, saying it could be the coolent temp sensor is away as they give mixed singals or something

this make any sense?

That code brings up this

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17664/P1256

That would only relate to possible poor MPG and difficulty starting the engine.  I've not heard of a faulty temp sensor throwing a car into limp mode  :undecided:

i was reading up on the fault code on the skodas and when they are meant to go the coolent temp sensor they give mixed singals and brings up fault codes for egr valve, manifold pressure, manifold temp sonsor, charge pressure sensor and sure someting to maybe do with n75 valve not sure on that one tho

all getting bit confussing now  :lipsrsealed:

Possible you got sticky turbo vanes mate

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17964/P1556/005462

If you grab an Innotec turbo cleaning kit and give that a go ASAP it might cure your problem.  If not you may eventually be looking at new turbo time.......

Ouch mate    I feel your pain

Not the first idea I'm afraid mate.  R-Tech fitted my new turbo.

Where you getting it from?  Make sure its setup tidy as mine came back and there was sod all boost from idle until 2000rpm.  There's a stop / adjuster screw which wasn't set correctly.  I never had this rectified though and sold the car as it was.  Just something you need to be aware of   Past 2000rpm it was an animal and pulled harder than before

okay mate,

yek was looking at turbos and was getting quoted £700 for new but my gf dad owns his own car company and is high up, up here so he got me one through nhis company from turbo solutions for £400 brand new so quite good

should that screw have can set or do you have to set it yourself?

In theory the screw should have been setup to factory spec but it can be adjusted.  Best to mention it to the people fitting the turbo otherwise when you first drive the car you think you still have no turbo!

Mine wouldn't boost past 5psi until it hit around 2000rpm
