Ok now that Ive got my car lowered Im looking at a wider stance ie spacers. I was thinking 20mm spacers? What do you guys think? Its a mk4 golf if that makes any difference sat on 18 inch boots. I'll need longer bolts too wont I? Im new to this so please excuse these daft questions  Could you also point me in the right direction on where to get my new spacers and bolts from? I know like everything there's the quality ones and the cheap and nasty id prefer the quality

id prefer the quality
thats good, buy cheep buy twice as they always say.
as for the bolts yes you will need longer bolts, think euro car parts do some decent ones for not too much. also think they sell the spacers
theres quite a few people on here with 20 mill spacers on and i think they look good. once i get my car lowerd i want either 10 or 20 mil spacers, maybe 15 mm but i dont know if you can get them. sure that someone will post a picture with 20 mill spacers to show you what it looks like though.
edit: no euro car parts dont stock them anymore, unless i just cant see the woods for the trees

im running 10mm ones up front & 15 mm ones on the rear, Got a set of 5mm ones going if your interested?
-
I have rs8 reps and running 16mm rear and 5mm front :afro:
-
Think ill go for 20mm all round  but thanks for the offer Chris
-
Will a tyre firm ie ATS etc fit the spacers if I supply them of course
-
Ideally you should have wider ones on the front than the rear, I would say 20mm on rear & 10mm on front

Easy to do! Go on get your hands dirty

Does anyone have a pic of there golf with 20mm spacers? The wheels dont stick out too far? Is it legal? Does anyone know the length of bolt required for 20mm spacers? I know its probably easy questions but I really am new to this
-
Ive found these and they match my H&R springs  but are these any good? Are they what I need?

Will I need Type: DRA Bolt On or Bolt through? I have aftermarket team dynamics alloys
-
Give this guy a ring ESP engineering ( 01892613292 ) . I got mine off him £60 posted 20mm spacers with bolts. Made from alloy and powder coated black. Had them on over a year now and are spot on .
-
Cheers Jonny I will do. Was that for all 4 spacers and all the required bolts?
-
Do spacers effect MoT's?
-
I have 5mm front 15mm back. Fronts are bolt through, rears are bolt on.

Do spacers effect MoT's?
No only IF the wheel protrudes outside the wheel arch / body
-
So what mm would cause the wheels to pertrude? Are 20mm ok or does it depend on the wheel/tyre? Or am I best with 15mm all round or as chris suggested something like 15mm rear and 10mm front would that give a noticable difference? How do I know if I need a bolt on or bolt through so I can order some?
-
lol all 4  no that was for 2 20mm rears with bolts . They are bolt through ones to lol
-
So can I get either bolt on or bolt through for my car and both will work or is it a set thing ie I have to use bolt through for the rear and bolts on for the front I haven't a clue could someone explain how to know which type I need please
How do you tell what size bolt you'll need or is it a case of measuring the original bolt and adding what ever the spacer is?
-
Bolt to are usually 15mm or above as you need to shorten the standard bolts to allow them to fit. Bolt through can be any size as you just need longer bolts
-
Ah I see so basically I can get any size of bolt through as long as I get the required bolts I get it now so I can just buy 4 bolt through spacers with bolts
-
I think I understand it now thanks for all the help
I'll go for 10mm front 15mm rear all bolt through with "aftermarket" bolts. When ordering they ask if you want standard bolts or bolts for aftermarket wheels they cost no different and I do have aftermarket alloys so I think im almost ready to get my spacers ordered.
-
Thats what im running on, 15,, at rear with longer bolts & 10mm up front with longer bolts
-
seen your pm jon  looks like another job for when you get your induction kit i'll be in touch soon :afro:
-
Yeah Matt you know the system now I buy something then pester you to fit it. Its a harsh system but it works!
