Ok, so here's the story. I recently bought a Milltek Twin Jet Cat-Back system for my Golf 20vT along with 4 Motion valances for the front and rear (bought from main dealer), the parts in total cost me £445 (£338 for Milltek and £107 for valances). So, I booked the car in at AVW (VW Specialists) to get the exhaust and valances fitted. Turns out they've had great difficulty fitting the valances and they don't even line up properly, also the towing eye at the back doesn't fit in the cut out on the rear valance, does the towing eye need to be taken off? Also, I'm not happy how the Milltek fits either, is it a bad fitting exhaust? It looks like it's on the piss and when braking the exhaust hits against the body causing a shudder type noise. When it came to paying they told me it took 8 hours to fit the exhaust and valances but they'd only charge me for 5, so the total was £284.29 (which I thought was a bit steep). The exhaust is only a cat-back, so should this of taken 8 hours to complete? Are they having me on? Has anyone else had any difficulty fitting the 4 Motion valances to their Golfs? Pics..

Exhaust doesn't look too bad in this one but once you go over a bump it goes out of place.

did u get a free tub of vaseline with that

When I had my front 4motion valance it was a bugger to fit right. Never did get it to fit right actually. The Anni one when on fine though.
-
mine was a thingy too i hd to wedge in plastic into the clip to stop them from popping out and linign up, in terms fo fitting the exchaust am sure u need to angle grind a tab off the rear fo the car in order for it to fit, the towing hook doesnt line up either u can either blank it off or just push your valence under it.
otherwise mate am sorry to say but u got well and truely scammed for payign 284 quid for fitting coz most places if u buy the exhuas they fit it free, well they do at r tech. i
-
if ure exhaust pipes are sliding and not sitting central to the cut out u just need to tighten a small clamp or some thing to the back of the box to stop it from slidign thats what i did
still 284 quid f**kign hell mate

I had to put a jubilee clip on the hanger behind the rear box to stop it moving around on my Blueflame
-
i dont get why you paid if nothing was fitted propley..
i would of told them i give you £5 ..cause thats the quality of work you have done so do it right or f**** o**
-
I'm having trouble fitting the valance as well it lines up but can't get the last tab each side into place am thinking of removing bumper and fitting the valance separately.. My exhaust is also knocking the chassis at the tip.. Hmm I fitted my self so looks like I still saved £280..
-
my mate charged me a ton to do mine which I thought was good. tech you're best off taking the bumper off and doing the valance, try and do it somewhere warm too

It is much easier to take the bumpers off to do it. Much less swearing required. Also start at the ends and work your way into the middle.
As for the rear towing eye not lining up, that just how they are. The 4Mo rear floor plan is different and the tow eye is just in a different place. You are trying to fit a part to a car that it was not intended for, so unfortunately have to put up with a little compromise.
-
I think i made a thread about this way back when i fitted mine on my old car... never did get it to line up properly....
-
The valances aren't a perfect fit, never have been, but they do go on and look about right. The towing eye is in a different place but you dont have to cut it off. You do have to cut off some of the metal from the bracket that the underside of the original valance bolts to (the one closest the exhaust) or it'll hit the tailpipes. Couple of cable ties on the rear hanger will centre the exhaust properly if you want the quickest fix.

hi r tech fitted mine at no extra cost and i did not bother with the 4 mo valance just cut mine out with a dremil looks v good never had a problem with the fit
-
The pic of your front valance is exactly how mine was until I sold it on. I tried everything and couldn't get it to fit properly. So I gave up and I'#m waiting for an anni or votex one to pop up.
-
Well i fitted my rear valance today and it fitted perfectly the two lower tabs your supposed to screw into when removing my old valance the bolts sheered so i couldn't re-use the tabs so with a hammer i knocked the tabs down and under and on passenger side it moved the sheet metal so it know longer knocks
and the last tab either side i trimmed a tiny bit of plastic on the inside of the valance and now they are clipped in and fit a treat..
-
Yeah tech mines was a bummer to fit also, i thought it was weird how the tow ring didnt line up but i now realise the 4mo is a different layout underneath. Funny reading this as im just after fitting a 4mo front valance today after 4 weeks of waiting on VW to get me it! haha. First time a valance has lined up not too badly for me lol.
-
nice one mate.. only thing that has annoyed me is cracking the lense
-
my 4mo front valance is the same, i posted it a while back too
looks spot on from the front its just the sides thats dont line up
-
yer to get the sdes to line up you have to trim the inside of the valance a tad then they fit a treat...
-
hmmm might look into this then on mines and see how it goes.
-
its the bit that you screw into that makes sense the bottom 3/4 of an inch cut off and it fits a treat..
