Title: Coolant warning light
Post by: Snooze on 09 December 2010, 20:13
The coolant warning light on my 2006 Mk5 Golf Gti has come on every cold morning for the past 2 weeks. I have checked coolant level several times and it is more than adequate. Can anybody shed any light on this as its starting to get on my nerves now! Cheers

Faulty sensor maybe.

New coolant expansion bottle required (it's complete with the level sensor) About £14 from VW.

It's the level Sensor that corrodes and fails intermittently. Only ever used to get this when the weather was cold. Now I've replaced the bottle, even in these very cold temperatures we've had recently (down to -11°C here), it's never come on again.

A pretty common problem and an easy and cheap fix (only takes about ½ hour)

Cheers

Andrew

VW had this problem 25 years ago, you would think they might have sorted it out by now.

Picked up my car from VW today, they had replaced the coolant expansion bottle under warranty.  Lets hope the warning light doesn't go off 2morrow morning!  Cheers guys
