hi guys. been reading through the forum and i cant find an answer. its very different to my polo setup so im not sure how it works just yet. but my heater doesnt work on hot. it still blows cold (at a reduced speed). i have seen people putting in a mk3 heater and getting good results but im not sure if there is an issue with mine or its the heater valve. i have no idea what work has been done by a previous owner (prertty poor though(no anti freeze no thermostat and the rest))
so could anybody advise me on what to do. i need to buy myself a haynes anyway so i shall fork out for one shortly.
sorry if i sound like a pleb btw.

So your getting no heat into the car at all? If thats the case, then it is likely a problem with either the bypass valve, or the matrix itself being blocked. these common issues are covered loads, its probably best to fis a mk3 spec heater matrix with new feed and return pipes to remove the bypass valve. check out this from the maintinance section:

does your cooling system work generally? Have you now got a thermostat and a fan that works when it should?

thanks for the reply, much apreceated. will give the link a read and see whats what.
Not as of yet. getting done within the next half hour. going to let it cool slightly before i touch it. just been driving it sinse it was all frozen yesterday. no problems occorred thankfully.
the cooling system seems to work fine other than when you have a headwind hitting the rad it cools very quickly. but when your stood still its all good, fan kicks in no problem.

You can always advance search terms like thermostat, heater blower issues, no heat from fans etc,
just unclick all and select MK2 MK2 maintance or garage. There are loads of info but start checking small things first like the thermostat. The best method is to touch the pipes to determine where the issues could be as most of them should be hot

...... when you have a headwind hitting the rad it cools very quickly.
Hi
Cover the front lower half of the radiator with a piece of cardboard.

Yer like most of the douches in loughborough. I think there must have been a thing on east midlands today or something. Loads of people have cardboard strapped to the front of their cars

card over the radiator wont effect anything if your thermostat is working, it closes off coolant flow thru the rad when the coolant is colder than 87ish. have a read of this:
