Ive been through various lowering kits and decided to go back to standard 16v hight, now ive had 2 sets of shocks and springs on the rear so far, each have scrubbed really bad on the tyres onbumps or with passengers it is undrivable, I run on 195 50 15.
Is it likely the shocks or the springs or both? Im tempted to just cut my arches but that seems like cheating and I cant be bothered with the fuss.

How much was it lowered by? There is a guide in the maintinance section that gives the measures from the wheel centre to the metal lip of the wheel arch, so you can see how much its been dropped.
Could always ask your rear seat passengers to diet.
It will be spring stiffness that determines the ride height, but these should be matched to suitable dampers for stroke and travel etc.

Your sign pic looks like the rear is sitting much lower than your front...
What set up do you have??

Ah maybe I worded it wrong, what i meant in my first post was that its now standard 16v height so not lowered as such.

yeh that pics from inbetween the messing about, thats supposed to be a 40mm lowered set but I couldnt understand why one end sat higher than the other (I wondered if it was meant for a carrado and maybe the front is heavier on those?) but when I measured it up I found that the front was standard 16v height so I just got myself some standard 16v rear shocks and springs to match and now the ride height is even, but it scrubs so bad on bumps, and with anyone in the back, even my mates fairly small girlfriend it scrubs on even the slightest of bumps
-
Sounds like your springs are knacked to me...
I have Eibach springs which are 30mm lower than 16V springs and dont have an issue with two adults in the back!!
-
You can get some spring helpers (forgot the name). I used some in the past to stop the front scrubbing.
They wrap around the coil. No need to remove anything to fit.
Might be worth a try first.
-
So 16v height is 330mm from wheel centre straight up to the underside of the arch, and this is what you have now?
There certainly must be something wrong to get scrubbing problems with only light rear loading. Have you got reasonably fresh bump stops on the shocks? Are the top mounts in decent condition, not dropped/collapsed?
-
Looks like il get more springs, what a pain x x
-
Standard set up should not rub so sounds like your rear shocks / springs are knackered.
-
Are the rubber parts still on the top and underside of the strut? and have they perished?
Before I put coilovers on the Jetta the one side bottomed out qute easy because the rubber was knackered.
Now got an 80mm drop and no issues at all.
-
What tyres/offset are you running? As above, check the condition of the top mounts too.

Top mounts were new about 3 months ago, offset? standard? I dunno :p
Ive got ATS cups on 195/50/15s

Think something must be a bit knackered as I have cups on the same profile tyres and my rears don't scrub

and yours is significantly lower than mine :p
Im getting this sorted tomorrow hopefully.

so it turns out its because my ATS Cups are deep dish so the wheels are much wider and wont sit under the arch like standard BBS or whatever, and I bet everyone knew that thats what Deep dish meant except me right?, so on go some coilovers :D
-
Thought you were still on RA's....

Nah, I sold them to pay for my ATS cups, I need a new picture dont I :p
-
Would have helped if you had said that they were fitted - Duh!!
-
I mentioned it about 7 posts ago, but I didn't actually realise there was any difference :p
-
So the problem is the tyre rubbing on the springs?
I had no issue with my 7inch wide Cups, what size are yours?

no its on the arches, I dont know what size the are, but the guy that looked at it really knows his stuff so it should b ok with coilovers

Deep dish just basically means they're wide, ATS Cups come in 6.5" & 7" widths, Mine are 7" so this shouldn't be the problem really or I would suffer from it badly
