How are these held on. One of ours at the rear is coming away and we have to hold it down when closing the boot. Where can I buy something to sort this
-
i wana know where i can get all the rubbers as i want to replace mine..
-
If you mean the ones that fit in the gutter strip along the roof and car side "I think" they slide in...
Guess what they are NLA - I wanted a pair after I had my car re-sprayed they were mega dosh when new too...
-
sorry if this sounds stupid so if its NLA how do you get stuff for the mk2 now ?? :undecided: is it all secondhand ??
-
They're held on with little plastic clips that fit into the metal recess in the bottom of the gutter. Available on ebay, easy enough to fit, but be very careful you don't bend the gutter otherwise you'll be like the rest of us and end up trawling ebay for a local pair of them!

Yep... or make do with what you have....
Ebay or scrappy or someone breaking a car...
All part of the fun of owning a 20 year old VAG car....

All part of the fun.... At least there were 6 million Mk2's worldwide!!
So plenty of parts knocking about...
These runners are about the only thing I've had any problem getting... Only cos I'm anal about the car looking 100%
-
I have seen aftermarket ones from the states they were $160. It took me ages to find them, so of course i didnt save it to my favourites.
-
BBT's don't have any either just asked on Ed38!!

That's about the long and short of it. It can take years for the right part to come up at the right money.
Just remember, good things come to thoughs who wait.

Lovely. Anyone got a link to the clips.
THere is a set of rubbers on eBay now
-
clips go to vw, they're cheap. however if its right at the back where its coming up clips wont help you as the very back post doesnt use one, it clips direct into the rubber. the metal it clips into might be bent, and possibly salvageable with some carefull tweaking. but if the gutter is too bent then its pretty much scrap, very hard to get them straight again
-
Yeah ours is on the back. Its not bent just loose
-
Are these just trim, or do they perform a function? - Can they just be ripped off and tossed away?
-
I did this a couple of months back, check out the link to my project page for more details...

I also have a set of near-perfect 5 door rubbers going spare, along with loads of new clips.
-
they help direct warer away from the tops of the doors, and give the edges doors something to seal up against. when mine were trashed i used to get a nice shower of water whenever i open the door as the rain could drip down and sit on top of the door seals. once replaced no more drips. they also prevent some wind noise. if not bothered about all that you could rip them off if you wanted to save weight :)

3-5 Door arn't they all the same...
-
I thought there are two kinds if strips one shinny one matt I have a spare shinny one somewhere I was saving as they are very expensive when I tried to buy one so scrappy in the end but it was too shinny for the Rallye
-
3 and 5 door ones are different, 5 door has more 'door seal' bit if that makes sence
-
Saw this when looking for window rubbers a while ago. Is only for the soft seal part of the gutter and costs a bit but might be of use to someone
