Hi guys
May seem a silly question but the golf has a cruise control stalk but cruise control does not operate, is it meant to have this stalk or has someone attempted to fit cruise control to a car which won't accommodate the facility??
Cheers!!!!
-
should work. seem to remember they have to be activated though? so has yours been activated/ ever worked?
-
they dont work on cable, its more likely someones just fitted the stalk, mines the same
unless you find out otherwise cos id love to get it working on mine.
also needs more than just the stalk fitted

my old AGU had factory fitted cruise control, it cant be retro-fitted simply though.. bits of loom and ecu need changing.
-
is it easy job on electric throttle ??
-
If you're familiar with dismantling the fusebox, steering wheel and wiper motor then yeah, p!ss easy. Plenty of guides around for it
-
yer im not that familiar with doing them things.. how much people normally charge ??
-
150 fitted is about the going rate. Takes me just over an hour. I reckon you'd still manage it in an afternoon, dont be a wuss give it a go
-
yer yer will do when money eases up a bit in the new year.. got any secrets places to buy the kit cheap ??

Yep and still going strong
-
My AGU has factory fitted cruise control but it's stopped working at the mo lol
-
But do these agus have cable throttle?
-
Yup :)
-
looks like i'll have to get it working on mine then.
when i got the car i was told that cable throttles wont work  dont evene know which bits are fitted, its got the wiper stalk but dunno about owt else
-
my CC stuff is on the left hand stalk.
-
I'm told that the clutch and brake light pedal switchs can fail causing cc not to work, I've changed brake light switch but still no good, from eat I have read there are two clutch pedal switchs one which works the cruise control. Is this correct???

AGU's have cable, but there's two spec TB's (part numbers are the same just the last letter is different) the normal one VW charge £450 and the one that is also able to support CC on the AGU is £600... crazy b*stard prices if you ask me. Wish you could use the butterfly alignment motor on the cable throttle as a cruise control mechanism

so do you know the part numbers of these? or is there anyway to tell the diff? when i cleaned my throttle body i noticed there was 2 wiring harnesses attatched
-
Best way to tell is look at the 'far' side of the throttle body closet to the windscreen if you see a sort of 'cam/pulley' with some cable (much like that you find on a mountain bike) then its cable.. If not then well your in luck...
If you do have throttle by wire i.e electrically controlled, then follow this guide..
http://www.carbasics.co.uk/vw_golf_mk4_cruise_control.htm
If you don then I have no idea. Mine is cable operated and I'd love to know how to fit cruise control...

Don't understand how they'd work on an AGU,as how would throttle activation be held electronically?
-
i would also like to ee it on a agu and working..
-
When I fit a new clutch pedal switch I'm certain cruise control will fire back into life lol was working for about a year before it died on me :(
-
my agu is def cable operated, as i thought all agus were, but if people on here have agus with cc and throttle cables then there must be some way the car can lock the throttle at the needed load?
got to admit, im still dubious that these agus have cable tb's
-
agu is defo cable throttle.. but yes they must lock the throttle some how maybe part cable part electronic thorrle ??

agus only have one cable tho, and i cant see that being attatched to an actuator, and thats old tech, new cars use motors in the tb

Right lads you wanted part numbers:
AGU: 06A906018G (standard)
AGU: 06A906018F (Cruise control)
G is standerd, F allows cruise control. I remember discussing it with topher with his reply:
i doubt you'll find the F type, they were bloody rare.. i had an AGU with cruise but have never come across another one, it also uses a different ECU so i doubt it'll work.
aum won't work, as you need a cable operated throttle.. aum is fly by wire.
Hopefully that clears some things up, but an intresting thing may be whether the butterfly alignment motors could be doubled up as cruise control, with some sort of means of controlling it (not sure if possible, but a possibility - but then it also depends how much the alignment motor can actually turn the valve as if its only 25degrees max then it won't work.)
