Title: Advice needed, cyclinder head AGU 1.8t
Post by: dantheman6554 on 05 December 2010, 20:14
Well my mate offered to do the cambelt on my 51 golf 1.8t,  AGU?  , the hydraulic tensioner failed when he had done it, its snapped 3 exhasut valves and bent 5 engine valves,, been looking can see heads with valves at around £400   , is it best to do this or should i go down the route of head skimmed, and new valves at £35 odd a piece?!  also if anyone has suitable ones on here let me know!   very annoyed as i only paid £1650 for it with FSH , 100k miles , 3 door and in very good condition!!

only paid £500 for a complete agu engine with turbo manifold etc every sensor and that was delivered and it had only done 49k may be worth considering just changing the lot and turn the other one into a project

If he did replace the tensioner and it failed then id be straight back to where you bought it from, the part should gave a guarantee behind it. Other wise id just drop another engine in there, much easier and if owt goes in future you have a spare parts engine
