Post by: ajk671 on 04 December 2010, 11:41
hi,

shut my dvrs side door yesterday and the window fell down into the door  think it must have just been the ice
holding it up, the window motor still sound like its working, will it be a case of just taking the door panel off and re adjusting
the window and if so what tools do i need please.

cheers all

The motor drives cable with clamps on up and down. Take the door trim off and u will see. Either your clamps that actually hold the glass have come loose and the window has dropped away from them, or the clamps have broken from the cable. Happened to mine on 1 clamp but my bodge job has been sufficient enough to keep it on the cable! Hope this helps mate.

If you are lucky you might not have to necessarily change the entire window regulator system. What this means is that you only need to change the clamps. In which case, you obviously upgrade to the metal type ones! You can pick up repair kits of course which will include the stronger metal clamps and cables: around £40 inc VAT

The worst case scenario, if more damage has occurred, is to change the entire inner door skin. Budget around £85 for this. But, for the love of God, don't get cheap replacement parts from the likes of 'bay, etc.! Remember: buy cheap, pay twice!

The question isn't 'if' the window regulator clamps will go, it's a question of 'when'...
