good quality part or piece of junk? figured id better be safe than sorry. :nerd:

does your car catch alight often ??
yer a little extinguisher is worth having just in case..
-
never has and hope it doesnt lol
but have a friend whos camero caught on fire and in little time burn to the ground.
dont wanna see that happen to my gti haha
but my question was is the quality of the extinguisher any good?
-
me personally i would buy a named brand extinguisher
-
Would you rather have a fire damaged car or covered in extinguisher chemicals?
Either way it's f**ked, pretty sure that sh!t don't come out too easy, if not at all!

As above. Always carry one in the car just in case (used to own a Beetle which are notorious for engine fires ). If you have it, you probably won't need it

Would you rather have an uncontrollable fire or the chance to extinguish a small one?
-
the stuff does come out of carpets etc..
-
I've always had a fire extinguisher in the Golf. Just make sure you fit it somewhere accessible in the event of an emergency.
Best place is usually to bolt it to the floor immediately in front of the passenger seat. Don't let it roll loose around the car!
Oh, and +1 for a branded unit, mine was £15 (~$25) for a similar sized bottle

Small one :embarassed:
But I'd much rather use a fire blanket or something.
Really wouldn't wanna spray chemical foam all over the car though.
Plus if I saw flames coming out the bonnet I reckon I'd struggle putting my hands amongst the flames to get to the bonnet catch.
I know this would be rare, but I always imagine the worst!
-
a guy i work with does fire extinguisher servicing and he says them little ones are a waste of time. on the other hand his peugeot 307 caught fire outside a police station and by the time he got to the boot to get a full size extinguisher out his car was well and truly past the stage of being put out by an extinguisher. he says the worst part was he had all his work clothes on and the police after being really helpfull and noticing what his job was did nothing but take the piss
-
if you catch a fire when it's small those littel ones can do the job.
saved my car when it blew a rod and coverd the exhsust manifold and it's wrapping in hot oil that promptly ignited.
if you catch it quick they are just about enough. din't quite manage to put my car out tho but i did need a piss so got the hose out
-
get a small one for your car and 2 medium ones for your house. (upstairs and downstairs)
-
Go for a full on engine bay nozzle system, just hope to f**k that you dont let any dickhead mates fiddle
-
+1 on above.. especially the last bit
-
If mine caught alight im gonna get the f**k out of it and run clear.
Rather replace a car than my skin.
-
the cordoba has diy snozzel system and 10ltrs of liquid co2 on board, managed to use it all twice at weekend.
as for running away from fire nope fire is mans favoret toy you only run away from it when its got ig and scary and is trying to eat you untill such a point your soposed to poke it with sticks ,
and a random saftey warning. only open the bonnet on a fire if you KNOW it's tiny and not going to go up in your face 99% of te time opening the bonnet on an engine fire is a really stupid thing to do
-
How about this....
Most of us would refuse to work in an area that didn't have the appropriate fire extinguishers and fire provisions...
BUT
Most of us will not have the appropriate fire extinguishers/provisions in our own home....
Sort your car and house out (extinguishers, alarms, blankets)...and brief all family members on escape routes etc.....please.....

:grin:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
well said sir... and i 100% agree :nerd:
-
My car caught on fire I would be out of the damn thing in about 2.5 seconds.
Wouldn't be attempting to put it out myself.
Can understand why it would be advisable to have one in the car though, for those times you come across another MK2 on fire and want to assist.
-
Cars don't detonate instantly like in the movies, they do take a fair while to burn, so if you can catch it early enough - you might well get away with saving your pride and joy!
-
thats not always the case...
friends camero caught fire due to some faulty wiring to his stereo and it took literally under a minute for the flames to get about 4-6 feet above the car. almost burn him and his girl alive.

haha think it was made out of those fire starter logs
but true story about the fire catching so fast...
-
i was driving a 3 month old range rover that caught fire scary! nothing was going to stop it it went up like firework once the fire got through the bulkhead, the way the interior burnt was mad. thank god it wasnt mine it was my bosses.
-
I have a rather large extinguisher in the passeger well.
As said before do not open the bonnet to an engine fire! Take it from underneath.
-
or even better - just walk away from it.
It's only tin and rubber. Carrying a fire extinguisher is nearly as dangerous as carrying pepper spray - you're going to be tempted to use it and it's almost inevitably going to get you in trouble.
Get out early and get out fast and that's from a trained fire-marshal.

Im a fire Marshall aswell lol
