Evening all
having had a number of gti's beliving that petrol was best a few years ago I bought a Tdi, chipped it and got to an amazing 220bhp, buts whats even more amazing is an average of 40+ mpg.
This poses the question, why buy petrol? I admit they are faster on the track but in the real world, day to day give me a diesel every time.
Ps the aniversary tdi is for sale  but only to buy a new gt tdi  please see cars for sale section

Easy answer from me gtiman, they don't do a diesel cab ! But I certainly see your point though, I'd probably go diesel if I got round to buying a newer Golf, but then again the mk5 GTi would be too tempting.

apparently bmw are going to be doing a diesel cabrio 3 series

I can see the advantage of diesel concerning driving economy and if i was going to have a day to day car then yes i think it would have to be a diesel golf or bora.
However for pure driving fun nothing beats a petrol mk2. Just such fast power delivery and light as you like.

I shall never by a diesel car for my main car. they sound like tractors!
they'll never be as fast as petrol cars, ever!

I used to have a turbo diesel 306... hell of a lot more tunable much more cheaply....
increased the BHP by 25 for only 100 quid...
Standard economy is the only benefit really, but tuning wise Id go for petrol...
