Title: Multi function colour display option £180
Post by: lowdown on 02 December 2010, 19:45
I've just speced up a new Mk 6 with the dealer and this option wasn't mentioned.  It's there on the VW configurator page, but it doesn't give any real details of functions.

Do you have it?

What does it do?

Do I need to amend my order quickly?

I have just looked through the brochure, and there is no mention of it as an extra.

So I assume it's an error on the website.

It was a new option on the 2011 cars.
Not surprised the salesman hasn't heard of it they are never that clued up about new changes.

Any clues as to what it does, it can't be an extra £180 because it's simply in Colour.

With VW's pricing structure... I wouldn't bet against it!

Can't remember seeing that in the 80's.

You got a push button trip meter if you were lucky.

Will it be colour sensitive wrt the external car colour?
£180 for a bit of kitsch is such good value for money.

To be honest I'd pay £180 for that - think it will make a big difference to the interior. Seen it in a couple of Audis and it does look very nice

Lots of Audi's had colour displays in the late 80's, I love the white on black - it works.

Yes it can be retrofitted but will need a new BCM as well as the whole cluster.

i'm waiting for the 3D version - i'll be able to see from my screen not only what door is open but how far it's open and it'll look like the door slams in my face.

The latest VW Bluetooth system fitted to my RNS 510 shows text messages on the dash computer display.
Very funky and useful - and it doesn't need to be in £180 worth of colour either!!!

Still not convinced. I'm not been tight as I've spec'ed my March 11 gti up quite well but will colour MFD make much difference? Im even considering the plastis boot liner.

Ordered my GTD in October and still no build date

I changed my order to include the colour MFD. I'm still not sure why I want this in the car :undecided: I think I just decided if I'm going to spend that much money on a Golf... Why not!

i've never seen a real one, only ones reviewed on TV and video but the head-up displays that show info in the windscreen like on the BMW M5 i think is a much cooler and more useful feature than a colour display in the dash. having speed and revs showing in a HUD means you wouldn't have to refocus your eyes as much looking at the physical dials on the dash, keeping your eyes focused on the road more. considering the amount of sophisticated options you can already get on VW vehicles like DSG, ACC, rear parking camera, seems a let down not to have HUD, unless somehow BMW have some kind of expensive patent on it or something?  :undecided:

Yr could have a Ford (sorry for language) RS for similar price or ST maybe cheaper than a GTI but you've opted for VW; In for a penny, in for a pound. Go for it.
