right guys n girls.my mpg has been bugging my for some time. with the petrol being so dame dear an my mpg being so so bad. on an averge of 17/18mpg. an im sticking to the speed limts n driving normal. an when i put my foot down it drops to 4mpg yes 4mpg
so if we could all put down who gets what n what mods we have that would be great...
thanks
my mods..
remap, j valve ko4 turbo.
-
On my run to work on normal roads I nearly always get 33 mpg, Very rare ends up below 30 mpg, Thats on a 9 mile journey
-
30 on average on a steady run, worst i have seen is 12 beasting a audi a4 the other day!!!! , can get it to 36 driving old man style
-
Low 40s taking it easy.. Average mid 30's.. I think you need to check your map out mate sounds terrible
-
You do realise after a turbo or map change, your mpg on the OBC means nothing anymore....... Mine says 18 or lower but clearly it's not quite that bad
-
no i didnt no that. but it cant be that far out can it???
-
Beat way is for you to run your car outta fuel with a gallon in the boot, put that in and see if you travel more than 4 miles! Clearly you will unless you've got a crazy displacement. Odds are on that you'll do more than 18....... The computer is fairly crap. I've got mine to read 48 mpg if I drive carefully but again that's wrong. I asked nick at rtec when I got my spec 2 and he said the OBC reading goes outta the window with the map and turbo etc
-
Well how many miles from a tank ??
-
I get 270 when I Pune about or a out 330 if I'm drivin like miss daisy. I'd rather get 60 leas and enjoy the boost though.......
-
i get bout 240 to a tank drivin like miss daisy.
-
That's heanus! Was it mapped by shell!? Could be your MAF
-
i did yhink maf. it was mapped by a company in enfield called red dot by the guy i got the car from.
-
Go back and poke him in the eye! I take it he didn't do it on a rolling road etc.... Does it kick out any black smoke when you gun it?
-
yes it was done on a rollers. but no blake smoke.
-
Have you put it on vag-com for any faults? What engine code do you have?
-
Or take it back to where you had it mapped and get him to log your maf results
-
something liable to be wrong with your car not the map there mate, know two people with maps from red dot. both excelent maps and both had no problems, one is a grande punto with 187 ish bhp and 310lbs torque ish. cant remember what sort of power the other lad got but know they both got good gains and kept the same mpg as before (or got better if they didnt drive heavy footed)
as for mpg this mornging i was geting 15 mpg at first when the weather was cold but that was stop start stop start ect. after 5 mins when i was cruzing at 50 mph i was getting about 35 mpg.
-
I got 345 miles to a full tank when i went on holiday the other mnth that was with 5 people in the car and a rammmer boot ! (all motorway/country lanes)
now its shocking lucky to get 20mpg but it needs a service cambelt and thermostat so fingers crossed that sorts it out
-
I regularly see 220 miles tops to a full tank, the joys of living over here and the short journeys.
If I take a trip over the water I can see 330 miles to a tank and that's with the occassional play too
-
On a recent trip down to Cardiff i got 370 miles on a full tank (think i put £62 in it).
Last night, drove to the cinema and got it up to 40.2mpg, never seen it that high before.
On average, it's around 33-36mpg and that's a totally standard car. (Milltek tomorriw thou :))
-
Got Milltek cat-back, piper X panel air filter, Rtech remap stage 1, Forge Diverter valve= ave of 30s and motorways of 40's...full tank range is 330 or so. Bearing in mind its winter-mine has dropped to mid 20s lately.
-
Mostly between 30-35 mpg on B roads but that's 'cos I can't ever get clear roads to give it the berries!
-
swindon there are loads of clear roads to give it a blast !!
-
i get bout 240 to a tank drivin like miss daisy.
I have this problem too and at the moment my Rtech - mapped AUM has done 217 miles to a full tank so far and i have 1/4 tank left
Any guesses what it might be? Could it be something as simple as a good service?
-
PCV system... MAF.. boost leak..
My car was doing 300 till reserve.. fitted a catch can a few weeks back and now i get about 330 to reserve or there abouts so it does make a difference..
-
Struggling to get 50mpg
-
Times are hard ay Ad
-
Around 300 from a full tank with mixed driving with current mod'd 1.8T. We use to get about 340 from a tank about 10 years ago when we had a factory fresh 1.8T
-
maybe full service in order ??
-
What mine?
-
yes..
-
ive always averaged 26-27mpg on mixed driving, get mid 30s on a long motorway run
-
yes..
Most likely the difference between 210 and 150bhp and respective mileage 120k miles versus 5k miles as to service history.

-
some crappy oil vapour recirculation pipework that gets brittle over time and snaps..
-
i managed 360+ miles on a tank when i drove down to woolacombe, averaged 40.1 on the way there over 107 odd miles being sensible, enjoying the same drive home, 36.9 but to be fair i got home 35ish minutes earlier so it was worth it to me.
sucks round town, usually low 20's on short journeys on longer but still under 10 miles its mid to high twenties.
if we just drive round town, 230 -260 miles per tank mixed driving
thats just with air filter, and tip
-
As above really

Any Pics?

The dials matched my icon layout but the middle section didn't (as I have no display) so I used that from my standard foils. Also I needed the indicator and full beam icons. It's a right mess underneath but you'll never see it

Complete with my own take on the r theme just to be different.
Just got to readjust the temp and fuel needles.

Does it not annoy you that the '3' is a bit wonky? That would annoy the hell out of me
-
On my 2001 aum i get 28-30mpg around town & 36-40mpg motorway driving. When giving it some large long blasts i get 7mpg . Mods are REVO remap, forge 007p,airfilter,decat pipe & a full custom exhaust.
-
I going to adjust the 3 when i do the needles. The sticker was an absolute nightmare to get on as the foil surface doesn't seem to allow for things to stick very well.
-
Looks sweet dolphinfriendly1012
-
Thanks, its a bit of a faff to do but think it was worth it in the end. All the needles, chrome rings and foils came from passat sport binnacle that cost 40 quid, Cheaper than bora sport or r32 dials and satisfaction of doing it yourself.

just been down to Tesco and picked up a bottle of Redex Fuel System cleaner and my MPG has gone from <20 round town & around 25 on motorway to 26 & 38 respectively! And that difference was seen in 6miles of sticking it in ma tank!! Plus my Computer is also quicker at reacting to changes in Average MPG!!
Hope this Helps guys.... Was the best £4 i ever spent!

Hi guys,
I owned a petrol 2.0l dare I say it so i'll whisper (gti) or in euro terms 2.0l highline.....anyhoow.......in that i was averaging 24/28mpg on a daily commute of 15mile in total. Drove up to glasgow from manchester and used a tank getting there and filled up in scotland and back down to manchester and I was left with a qtr of a tank. Poor fuel consumption overall, 30mpg max even on motorway. Now got a GT TDi 1.9 190 remap and I get 35/40mpg on the daily commute and drove down to London and back on a tank with a good 3 gallon left average of 55mpg and I get about 400 mile on a tank if its all traffic roads but can get more than that i reckon if you were to travel distance on motorways. As sson as I get on a motorway a go up to about 50/60mpg depending on traffic obviously........
-
Big difference to my old golf  now getting 20mpg travelling to work etc  averaging 200 miles per week and use almost a full tank managed 28mpg last week on a motorway run back home still not fussed tho loving my new car

All depends on where am working/living, what my needs are and how much funds is available. Got a few ideas.
Wont be a Audi, may as well buy a vw and save a few grand....
-
I got 230 miles to 3/4 of a tank mixed driving, 1.8T R-Tech Map, forge DV, Venom CAI, J valve, anyone noticed getting worse mpg in the winter?! My old 1.8 16v clio mpg increased in winter!!!
