Its in a Mk5 Ed 30 Golf.......It came with the car so i dont know what it is called and the radio is the standard one put in at the factory. The Radio is an RCD300. It does not work with ipod or iphone. So probably broken. I will try to speak to the previous owner....Trouble of buying from VW !
Thought someone might perform a miracle for me! Any idea what the output of the amp on this rcd is?

so the factory unit has got a proper ipod/iphone connection then it take it not just a 3.5mm headphone plug
if it has you may just need to get a scosche passport unit this pplugs in line between the iphone and the lead

a scosche passport?
where do i get one of those and what is it?

Car has been under snow since the last post! I have now found the instruction manual for the ipod adapter. It is a VW accessory and as i looked through the insructions i thought it may work. I am told that when it is attached to the adapter that the vw logo is briefly diplayed. Unfortunately i see no vw logo. The adapter does not recognise the 80gb classic ipod or iphone4. Now the manual states it works with 20gb 30gb 40gb 60gb ipod. ipod mini , ipod nano and ipod photo.
Will the scosche passport make this adapter work or am i going to waste my money?

Some ipod leads dont work with the iPhone. I had this problem with my iphone although it does not sound like the cable, worth a try though with a diff one

I would of thought that as long as you ahve a normal 3.5mm jack lead on either end it'll work with anything that supports that as an input.
The FM transmitter modules that you plug into the iphone to then receive via the cars radio, for the general are a waste of time. All the ones that Ive tried from cheapo brands to belkin mean you have to ramp up the volume on your iphone and then on the radio to the point that anythin on the music or podcast really stands out.
The best ones Ive found are the cassette adaptors, cumbersome but they work

the 3.5mm jack lead should work with anything, just aslong as its an input for your unit via aux and not some crazy output, unless you are trying to do it with the ipod power/data cable?
-
not a 3.5mm ... its a genuine vw unit with the plug that goes in the bottom of the ipod/phone. There is power at the cable but no joy getting the thing to work still ! I'll get vw to look at it next time i'm there .

When your Iphone is connected and you try to access your music through your Iphone menu do you get a "Accessory Connected" screen appear? if so then your stereo has recognised its connected.
I had a small issue with my new 4G Ipod touch when it was connected i was not able to browse my songs on the Ipod its self only through the stereo interface which was very anoying not being able to scan through my music like normal asif you were to use it with standard earphones or a 3.5mm jack.
Theres a app (only for Jailbroken Ipod/Ipones) called 'NoAccessorySplash' which gets rid of the Acessory Connected screen so enables you to flick through your music and videos like normal when connected to your stereo or Ipod dock. This is what i use. Bare in mind if you go down the Jailbraking route like myself you void your warenty but thats the bad bit. But on the plus side you can get loads of brilliant handy apps.
It was probably a security thing whitch Apple decided implement so when your driving you wern't busy browsing through your music and cause a crash.
Hope that helps thats my guess.
