hi all , i have just brought 4 doors for my golf gti , my question is the glass in my gti looks like a green tint!! however the glass in the new doors says tinted on them but they look a different colour ? did vw do different tints? also if i have to change them is the 1/4 glass from rear doors easy to take out?
cheers again

you could get brown tint on the mk1, not 100% sure but i think mk2 got it as well? also blue tint is available but pretty rare
-
intresting cause they look kinda brown , do you know if u can get the 1/4 glass outta rear doors? cause if i change glass dont want odd ones
cheers again

you need to remove the main window glass 1st, then undo the bolts holding the rear metal glass guide strip in. to get the main glass out you need to remove the inner and outer slot seals and metal strips, even then its a bit of a struggle!
might be able to drop it inside the door, then undo the bolts holding on the window guides and wiggle glass about till it comes out the guides. then you should be able to pull the rear guide forward enough to get the quarter glass out

ok cool i will give that a go, one other thing while im on the asking questions, the doors also came with electric mirrors, switch and a little bit of loom that plugged into fuse box, however the loom was only out of the drivers door! should i of got a loom from passenger door too?
-
Don't do the rear quarter glass if you are in a hurry- it's a complete pain in the arse!
To get the new glass into the seal it's loads easier if you put the seal in some warm water first.
Good luck.

thanks mate not looking forward to that now , i will wait till spring ii guess so its a tad warmer

you will need some loom for the passenger door too ideally, is the passenger mirror electric at least? if so you could make your own loom with some spades pushed onto the passenger mirror plugs for the short term. corrado and passat up to around 96 have the same electric mirror loom as the mk2, so are ideal donors to pinch it all from

i would say its electric , the guy i brought doors off just cut wiring , but i just looked and coming out of the rubber bellow is 5 wires together , white, black,brown,blue/black and white/green . should i just get lenghts of wire and join them to the drivers side loom?
-
this is how they are wired:

green/white goes to the rear screen heater, you may have to splice into the wire as you'll probably find there is no spare connector for it. the black/yellow wire needs an ignition live feed, where it goes depends on what fusebox you have. where is the hazard switch?
-
hazard switch is on column . ce2 fuse box i think , but b4 i splice into fuse box i need to make a loom connecting left and right mirror? correct!! i so wish they would of unplugged everythin instead of cutting , also on of the front electric windows is down is there anyway i gan get it to go back up whilst there of the car
-
unfortunately the mk2 leccy mirror loom goes up under the dash and across, so a right pain to remove unless you take the dash out. would be easier to make your loom off the car aye. for a ce2 fusebox you'll need to find the D plug, you'll probably have a spare black wire hanging out of it which you can splice to. pin 9 or 11 is the factory spot.
to get the windows up jump the window motor direct from the battery, there will be a 2 pin plug on it put the wires 1 way to get window to go down, and the other way to get it to go up :)
