Title: Roof Rack/Bars - Same as Mk5 ?

Hi All, first post other than to say hi, i have a new GTD Mk6, and Love the car.

For my annual trips to Bonny Scotland i use a roof box, anyone know if the Mk5 Roof bars and brackets are the same ? according to Thule and Mont Blanc they are, but just thought i'd ask you guys n gals.

P.s Need to buy one, so if anyone got one for sale ? :-)

Yes they are the same, I have some but they are not for sale.  Another reason why I stuck with a mk6 from a mk5 so my bike can still go places. p.s. Hunt on ebay I managed to get a genuine vw pair for £19.99 with the key and instructions.

Thanks for the info, i managed to get a virtually new VW pair for £50.  Only problem they had no instructions, so i have lined the rear ones up with where the bracket rubber fits on the roof line ridge.  Also, the key has 6Nm written on it, it this a torque wrench or just a number for torquing up ?

The torque wrench actually has two arrows on it if you look carefully and is spring loaded, when the two arrows line up its torqued correctly.  Ensure you do each side evenly.  I will see if I can find my instructions and scan them, question is where did I put them???  I think on the back mine is 5 door, they have two grooves with the doors open and they line up in the grooves.  Front is easy as they have locator pins.

Hi, dependant on whether your Mark 6 is a 3 or 5 door, will depend on how to line up the rear roof bar. My 5 door has flat marks in the underside of the roof, after you have opened the doors, this is where you place the rear roof bars, as for the 3 door, normally there is arrows in the window etchings. :smiley: hope that helps?

They fit.

Just make sure you have the torque wrench to avoid damaging the bodywork.

Thule roofbox - no problems.
Garden shed panels - no problems.
