Over the past few days, first thing in the morning when i turn the ignition on, my LCD display on the clocks show a load of nonsense, then it clears back to normal, but today, after digging the car out of a pile of snow, it did the same, but i had no warning lights other than the battery light and speedo shot up to 40mph and revs up to 5k revs. Temp has gone so far up its wedged against the trip reset button, None of them worked! Then after a short trip they worked ok again but its stayed at 5k revs etc.. so when i rev it up to 3k it shows it off the clock!!!
IIRC, battery off and back on will do the trick, am i right? But ultimately, is this because of the cold or should i be looking for new ones?

pull dash fuse for 30 seconds, but ultimately i think you need new clocks! even my 83 cabby had no problems last year despite being buried in a foot of snow

I reset and sure enough, problem gone, i will keep an eye on it! Hm, do am i correct in thinking vag-tacho is whats needed to program the mileage? is it available on ebay with the correct cable?
-
no you need to make up a custom cable to plug into back of the clocks, then use a dos program to do the milage. vag-tacho wont work because there is no diagnostics connection to the clocks :(
-
Ahh that explains why i cant find it then, so vag tacho is the software but i need to make my own cable? I can manage that, its the software im worried about

no vag-tacho only works on newer cars, for the mk3 the software is a little dos program. i have all the infos if you want it
