Hi guys looking on advice on a clutch, will be getting clutch done after Xmas, now what clutch do I go for???
I Been looking at fast road and diamond clutches which seam to be about £150 ish
I can get a basic luk clutch from work cheap cheap.
What's the difference in the performance clutches is one make better than the other?
And how much of a difference is a standard clutch to a performance one??
Hope u can help guys

sorry to thread hi-jack  but i'd be interested to hear any advice as my clutch will need re-placing soon and am deciding between a standard or performance clutch but wonder if its worth paying the extra for a performance one?
-
Lol well we will soon see when we get some advice on thread :) , I think reading up the performance ones give better and quicker response buy not sure, I Donno what to buy lol

Standard clutch is fine unless your running big bhp.
Sachs or Luk are the best choices

I got cam and exhaust system atm, but will be getting work done to the head in next year or so, so i didnt know weather to put the better clutch in now whlie clutch needs changing rather than doing it again when got all engine mods done

i got ported polished head, cam, exhaust. Standard clutch slips slightly under hard acceleration. Was new in with engine change last xmas. Wish i had uprated mine at the time :(

My current clutch slips so much under hard acceleration on start off, wheels spin like mad, tyres have good tread suspension bit crap ATM as standard shocks with lowering springs they were on car when brought it, coilovers this year I hope lol, but I want a clutch that don't spin and gives better response
I seen fast road clutch for £135
And a diamond clutch for under £150
Donno what's the better one

I have a new sachs clutch in the valver and it doesn't slip.
Sounds like you need yours adjusting or it is worn - it definitely shouldn't be slipping in 1st.
I'm a little curious how you manage to get the clucth slipping AND the wheels spinning at the same time. If your wheels are spinning like mad, it would suggest your clutch is gripping just fine..

None of them, standard sachs will be fine.

Might change my cable then see if it helps bite point is very top of pedal ATM and really heavy to press

i have 166bhp and 150torques on my abf with a std mk2 sachs clutch kit, you dont need an uprated one for your car.
chances are it slips either because its worn, or due to oil contamination. when the box is off replace the pushrod bush and seal, plus the input shaft seal. check crank seal for oil leakage too, if there is any replace. oh and make sure the rocker gasket isnt leaking it can dump oil into the clutch housing if the green bung is missing
-
im gonna have a look around at prices this week and get a clutch after xmas, while having clutch done im having my cv joint replaced on drivers side.
i will check all them bits rubjonny and most prob get them changed anyway as if box is off better to get it all done at once :)
spinning of tyres could possibly be the fact the guy b4 me lowered the car on standard shocks and lowering springs?

sachs is better than LUK from what ive been told..

I replaced my OE clutch a few months ago, It had done just over 80k when I noticed it was starting to slip, not bad for a 20 year old clutch! on removal, it turned out to be LUK branded, with VW Audi written on it, proof of an OE part... my replacement item was also LUK, which I had also heard mixed reports about, on inspection it turned out to be exactly the same as the OE item, only missing the VW Audi logo, Proof was in the pudding, my new clutch is now silky smooth and light in operation, does not slip at all, and believe me, I can, and do drive my car very hard! I would recommend an LUK item to anyone that is looking to change, so long as they stay to sensible BHP.. also bare in mind that any type of competition clutch can be a pig to live with on the road...

I was just going on the stories floating about..

I was told by VW, and GSF that Sachs and LUK are the same item, 2 different boxes, same product inside!

Thats like most things.. some of the mk4 owners have had problems with LUK but no problems with Sachs maybe its just trick of the mind lol

theres a thread on cgti with pics showing luk and sachs kits, the pressure plate is a slightly different design on the ones they were showing. doesnt mean its the case for all kits though. vw use a mix of luk and sachs parts as you have seen. could be luk went thru a bad batch a while ago, as above ive heard of a few luk kits failing but never sachs

spoke to my manager who been in the parts trade for years he says there more or less the same, and that the companys mix and match pieces.
back to my main question though, what drivability like on a fast road clutch in normal traffic? someone at work said he had a racing clutch in his old vectra and said was a pain to drive?

Horrid to drive on a day to day basis and not needed unless your running mega bhp.
