Title: squeeling pully/belt
Post by: whitey82 on 29 November 2010, 17:33
Just been out to start the car (gti 2.0 8v) and theres a squeeling coming from i think one of the pullys. as you look down the left of the engine its the very left outer bottom one furthest to the back and its looks wobbly as it spins  ive got the car booked in on saturday for new cambelt and tensioner, which one is the cambelt and should i have the other belts done at the same time as the one right at the top is looking a bit cracked anyway.
Hope somone can make sense of this, its all new to me im afraid. Cheers, Dave

Get them all replaced mate, the cam belt is the expensive one, getting the others changed while your at it will cost a few pounds.

can you wobble it with your hand? and does it still have the bolt that holds it on in the middle if it does get a cheap socket set see if you can tighten it if not its possible somethings got in there and hit it off the road maybe a big stone rock ? im sure it will be fine there usually quite cheap pulleys ask the garage to have a look when there doing your belts they will probs replace it as its gotta come off anway

If car doesnt have aircon its just a different size belt.
