its not the fuse or the bulbs as far as i can see, its also taken out the heater switch lights to if thats any help, cheers
p.s oh yeah its a mk 2 1600 driva

Probably have to take the dash off to have a look, that is if it isn't a blown fuse.
-
have read the hatnes book of lies and i think its fuse 16, have replaced it with a new one, no joy
checked all other fuses all seem ok
yet still no lights

Its not the fuse or bulbs as far as I can see, Well your not gonna see much with the dash cluster in place, Its not unknown for the lights to fail at the same time so you have a few bulbs out as they are all the same age.
Take the speedo cluster out then at least you know your not wasting your time with fuses and wires when its a simple bulb blown fault.
-
so would the lights blowing on the dash also take out the light on the heater section too??
When i get chance i will take it all out and have a look
cheers

Its rare but can happen. Sounds silly but you have got the rheostat on the light switch turned up ?

I would like to check the bulbs in my 16v dashboard - the left hand side illumination is 'out' so I think probably the bulb(s) has gone. Can anyone decribe to me in simple detail how to remove the instrument cluster to change the bulbs? - it looks a bit daunting/fiddly and not at all straightforward to change the bulbs ? kind regards, yt

Its a pain in the arse. Get a haynes manual might help.
-
Does anyone have a practical reply ? kind regards, yt.

Not really mate. You're just gonna have take every screw out you can see, and look for blanking plates that hide hidden screws. Can't really give you a step by step guide.
-
Thank you, I'll have go in the next day or so. Kind regards, yt.

A condensed version.
Steering wheel off, Radio out, all the switches out, heater controls and bezel off, undo the screws you see. including the two inside the instrument shroud, should free the cluster cover. remove it and you see the cluster. two screws at either side at the top, remove and tilt forward. undo speedo cable, tilt further forward and lift out from retaining brackets and undo the two connectors at the bottom.
Hope that helps kinda.

I think 'modulator' has pretty well covered it there, however if do still want a comprehensive step by step guide I'm sure I can dig one out for you..........

You're very kind. I have found a very quick solution to my problem. Hit the plastic instrument panel on the centre/left hand end with a bent finger. Worked for me but I'm not suggesting it will work for everyone ! kind regards, yt.
-
Probably better to remove it and check which connection is loose! ;)

I had a the same problem on a Pug after many months of hitting the dash harder and harder (not a good idea on a french car, bits fall off). I found it was the dash light dimmer control switch. I would try that while your at it. At least it just pulls off and it only dims the speedo pod and the heater control.

I'll post some pics of mine as soon as I take them. Done a nice little mod with some neons and removed the orginal bulbs. looks well trick at night now :D

I know the trick of removing the green plastic filter inside the cluster and refitting with coloured plastic (from college folders etc) so you can jazz the lights up.
I was wondering if the switches use a similar green plastic filter and whether its easy to change.

I'll have to try that with mine ;)
