So this morning i get in the shed, i mean the mkii and joy of joys the rear bake caliper has seized and well was a bit of a ball ache to move the car but it did.
What i have come to realise over the last few days is the MKII is a great car, love the looks ,its fun to drive . . . . . When its summer!
Ive just been looking around and im sure I can pick one up for a reasonable price under 2k
The only thing is insurance really as im already getting bent over a barrel for the mkii due to 0 NCD
so was thinking about either a diesel or a 1.6 or something like that just as a second car and so i wont have too many further issues with the mkii and keeps the miles off
just need to figure out if it is really worht it and if i can really afford it
-
Avoid the 1.6
get a 110 diesel GT TDI :afro:
-
As above get a diesel the 1.4 and 1.6 are crap engines as the mk4 heavy.. Or you could also look at the 1.8 20v non turbo as it's a good engine and cheaper insurance.
-
might even look polos
but just a cheap run around that works in the cold would be great ;) but see what other golfs i can find
-
why not a 1.8t?
might as well, you know you'll kick yourself if you get a 1.6 or a lower spec derv.
-
As he said above insurance.. Polos are good just feel to small for me

yeah would be great to get another 1.8t but as mentioned need something that is cheap to run / insure and works in the winter haha
otherwise i would just sell teh mkii and get another 1.8t but i would prob look at a A3 instead

The right choice :afro:
Or if its just a runabout you want get something like Horney's Polo - epic MPG in a decent environment

well to give you an idea im 26, 0 NCD had 2 fault accidents in the last 5 years and my insurance on the mkii 1.8 16v with all mods declared is £102 a month :embarassed: would of had 2 years if it wasnt for a bump on the day i got the mkii
just been looking at a bora diesel as well and thats not too bad on the insurance on a 1.9 tdi
-
they all good mate or even get a bolf lol
-
think at this rate might just man up and get a road bike and cycle to work, would cut back on mielage and petrol use to no end! and keep me fit haha

Have a word with youself stink. You know as well as every one how frigging cold it is out there. You will do you self more harm than good geting a bike and riding it :lipsrsealed:
As for what Mk4 to go for we all know how much of a slug the 1.4 mk4 is but my experance with the 1.6 has been a saprise. Motor ways have been very good and the A-B runs have been good. You can get a 1.6 with less that 70K on it for less than £1700. and evan cheeper if the milage is slightly higher.

do you put anything over the windscreen at night? i got a big fancy bin liner basicly, that i tuck into the front doors tight over the main bit of the screen. saves ages when it needs defrosting

I find if you put a frost shield over the windscreen at night you don't get the condensation problems on the inside :nerd:
-
too be fiar since ive had my magic packet of silica gel on the dash no issues with condensation, 2 mins to scrape of the ice off the windows and jobs a good un!
all in all ive been looking and i cant afford a 2nd car not even a run around think im going to look at the bike option and slogg it out with the shed Mkii that or sell it to fund a mkiv but i think i would end up kicking myself if i did as much as it does my head in I do like it and feel that if i sell it im a drop out hahah
Just think, if i never pursued the R32 dream i would still have and now own my MKiv :lipsrsealed:
-
shame not another mk4 owner coming..
-
and you'd get lynched if you went to the mk2 section and posted "i'm selling my 16v for a mk4"

-
shame my mrs wouldn't drive a mk2 and it dont have isofix i'd of swapped you over winter.
i've a friend who's got a mk2, so if you're struggling for spares etc i can see if he has them in his garage. dunno what he has etc but when i speak to him i'll see if he wants rid of them. if he does i'll pm you his number. he's a bit handy with a spanner too...
