I know i have seen it from somewere but anyone seen were to buy the tyre sensor button and harness to retrofit the Tyre flat warning?
(I know you only need the button to reset the system but...)
-
Kufatec list one for the Mk5: -
http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p907_c26_TPMS---Tire-Pressure-Monitoring--Harness-VW-Golf-5-Golf-5-Plus.html
I keep meaning to make one up for mine, if I do I will keep the part numbers and wire lengths etc so could repeat if you want the kit as well
-
I'd be up for one of those Steve
-
Ok Mike, I will post up the results, will get some parts ordered this week
-
I would be interested but i would prefer it if mine was were the 2010 cars were in the glovebox rather than the centre concel like it is on the earlier 2009 cars.
-
I am looking at what can be done for that too
-
Thanks Steve.
-
Heres a guide i found for the mk5. Not read it yet so not sure how much use it is or not.
http://www.worldimpex.com/assets/partdocuments/TPMS1.pdf
-
Yep that has the basics of what pins to connect etc
-
Nice find, I might give this a go myself as it appears you only need the switch and the wire to the ABS controller as long as you use the ESP switch for the others.
Is that PDF for an AUDI as it mentions the AUDI radios in the text.
-
Think so, its from a thread by Darren when he fitted TPMS to his mk5.

Snoopy you should have the basic TPMS already there you just need to enable it via VCDS. Don't bother with the full kit as it isn't worth the extra cost plus fitting. My Flat Tyre Indicator works perfectly and its the best £35 I've ever spent on the car.

Forgive my ignorance. You say a dealer can enable it without the full kit. Will it then show on the MFD if there is a deflation?
-
Yes but you can't reset it yourself without either access to VCDS cable or going back to the dealers.

Any news of the Xenons?

You will hear the beep and the flat tyre light will be lit it will show nothing on the MFD. Now they are quite sensitive I have one tyre that drops 3 psi after about 3 or 4 weeks and the light comes on so a visual check isn't much use for 3 psi. Obviously a visual check is the first thing you do just in case you have a fast puncture.
I just added then link to retrofiting the indirect tyre pressure monitoring system.
http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f112/how-retrofit-indirect-tire-pressure-monitoring-5-minutes-7k6-50164.html
You will need the Set button in the glovebox to recalibrate it otherwise you have to use the VCDS to do it.

That was the orignal question of this thread which was answered back on Reply 2 by SteveP
Snoopy had already linked to the VCDS procedure on Reply 11.
Why have have you just repeated what everyone else has already said, maybe it was just to summarise the thread
-
Has Snoopy said I have done his many moons ago, its very easy to do and the hardest part of it is getting the plug out of the abs module
In all its quite a good little mod, but don't rely on it cos its not the most accurate thing.

I did yes and linked to the thread.
Its the first post on page 2.
In responce to the other posts
I would much rather do it properly and install the switch too so its very OEM.
I also found were i had seen the kit for sale i asked about for retrofit.
Its on the link for that VWwatercooled site.

Finally got around to getting TPMS wiring loom and switch installed.
All in not a bad job just a bit fiddly getting the wire through to the ABS controller.

(Button is now aligned properly too before you all comment )
-
Any chance of a write up please
Thanks
Geoff.
-
Soon.
-
Thanks
-
Great stuff Steve, I'd be interested in this as well..
-
Mines in the glove box (Sept 09).
I had this on the mk5 as well, the reason they moved it from the centre console is to stop you accidentally pressing it while changing the ACC or switching ESP off.
Worked well on my mk5, I had a nail in a tyre and it triggered the warning. To look at the tyre was fine but on closer inspection I found a small nail in the inner tyrewall
-
Here's a bit more detail.
Basically it can be installed without cutting any wires you only need to run one wire from the swtich up to the ABS controller behind the battery.
The other connections can all be taken from the ESP swtich and using a combo of pre-made wires and a couple of connector housing it will look something like this: -
Wires taken out of the ESP switch into another connector housing
(http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk207/Stevep_010/DSCF3383.jpg)
New loom reconnected to ESP swtich to "pick-up" the required power/signal's
(http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk207/Stevep_010/DSCF3384.jpg)
All complete and looking OEM (other than I only had black cable ties and OEM fit is clear)
-
So how much for the parts?
-
The first Mk6's had the TPM switch in the far right end position - anyone know the p/n for that switch, with curved corners?
Steve, would it be possible for you tell us what the connector p/n's are and give a wiring guide to the ESP switch?
-
I think the switch is listed on page 2 of this thread.
-
I think the switch is listed on page 2 of this thread.
Correct Snoopy.
-

Thanks. I want to keep it as far away from the ACC button as possible.
-
Funny you should mention the switch location, I corrected mine today
I have ordered the parts to make another kit so will be doing a write up shortly, if anyone wants the resulting kit at cost price then let me know
-
What we talking cost wise?
-
Will confirm tomorrow, probably around £32 inc the switch
-

Is it very difficult to fit, Steve?

Yeah, I'd be interested too, if you could do a full write up and pictures to show connection to the ABS switch that would be brill :)

Very neat job as usual Steve, how much, definitely interested.
-
Looking like I can ship a full kit for around £34, so around £16 cheaper than Kufatec
-
Put me down for one
-
And myself if it's easy to wire up to the ABS sensor! Can't wait for the write up Steve :)
-
I was wondering why the lead was so long. I see you answered it in your original post. I will wake up later

Also mocked up the glovebox install today, that works just the same just with a longer cable and a more involved install, as the glovebox needs to be removed.
-
Steve
How do you get the cable to the ABS controller behind the battery?
Is there a grommets/access point in the bulkhead?
Thanks
Adrian
-
^^^ Yep there is a grommit behind the ABS controller that go through the bulkhead to glovebox area.
It will be covered in my guide

Do you need a different switch (cover) to place it on the RHS as it has 2 rounded corners rather than all 4 squared off?
If you are doing a few sets would you put me down for one please (with 2 rounded corners!)
thanks
Adrian
-
^^^ Check the pic a the top of the page, if shows the correct button for the RHS install with the rounded edged, the first button I got was for the glovebox (or Mk5) install.
I am ready to make another order so if you want a kit then drop me a PM.
-
Thanks for clarifying Steve <goes and gets glasses>
I've sent you a PM

Going to leave for now as there are other mods calling for my cash
I've just fitted the switch and connectors/wires into the centre console - just need to feed the wire from there up the back of the glove box and into the ABS now (oh and coding!)
Q: Do you remove one of the side panels on the centre console in the footwell to get to the wire and 'pull through' ?
PS where can you buy the fabric tape you use please?
Cheers
Adrian

Buck, I didn't need to remove the side panels, I found you could feed the wire behind the trim and cable tie it to the ducting for the footwell vents.

Hi Steve,
Are you still able to supply the switch and loom for the TPMS ?
Thanks
-
Yep, once your up to 10 posts then PM me
-
Some more group buys?
-
Cool Steve will do I'm nearly there !
-
Some more group buys?
What sort of price would this be?
Cheers,

-
As some know, I've not been able to use my reset button in the centre console to remove the dash warning light.
At my last service i asked them just to reset the warning but no, they said it was a faulty switch :( VW replaced TP switch today to no joy and then spent 30 minutes trying to find why it still won't reset.
Tonight I removed all the cloth tape from the harness and checked all wiring back to SteveP's original wiring explanation - check! I then checked all the connections to make sure they were sound - check!
Sam (Branchespark) has lent me his VCDS cable so again I checked that the coding was enabled - check!
Still can't reset it from the switch  any ideas before I just turn the thing off to prevent future warning lights appearing?
Cheers
-
In VCDS you should be able to go into one of the measurement blocks in the ABS controller and see the switch output.
Pushing the switch then should toggle the output form open to closed, not sure where it is but I will have a look later for you.
This will confirm that it is is the right pin on the ABS controller and that the switch is working.
Does the backlight work ok on the switch when the lights are on ?
-
Thanks Mike
The backlight works ok.
The warning light triggered twice - once when I put my winter wheels on then when I swapped back to the summers so it appears to be able to identify the change in rolling circumference/speed and turn on the warning. It just doesn't want to reset.
-
Here is the place to check the TPMS Button.
You need to go into the ABS controller, then measuring blocks and go to block 16 and hit GO.
When you press the button you should see the NOT Oper. toggle to Operate.
Also just to make sure that the coding is correct I have included mine as there are two places for TPMS, BYTE 16 and BYTE 17.
Only BYTE 16 being correct.
-
Thanks Mike
Just in from work so will have a look after food !!
Adrian
-
Hi
Just checked mine and when I press the switch - nothing happens
I have swapped it with the ESP switch and nothing from that either so it's clearly a circuit issue or something "bigger"
Any thoughts/ideas?
Thanks
-
It looks like the wire between the switch and the pin in the ABS controller is not connected,
Did you check the connector at the controller end in case the pin has not located properly?
-
No I didn't. Battery out tomorrow night and I'll take a look.
For some reason I've now got my ESP;ABS and TPMS lights flashing on the dfash and can't clear them
-
Hmmm
I noticed today that the warning light (TPMS) was flashing for a few seconds then goes constant. I've run a diagnostics tonight and the following are showing.
Not sure what I've done but I've got a few errors showing now?

Any advice / pointers gents?
-
Looks like this may be a result of removing the the ESP switch with the iginition on.
TPMS error is due to enabling the other TPMS system at some time.
The load intervention happens if the ignition has been on for a while or the doors open it usually clears itself.
Not sure what the instruments one is but looks like it only happened once so may be just a blip.
I would just clear the errors down and see if they come back.
You may have to drive the car forward a bit and brake to get the ABS to reset.
-
Thanks Mike
I've managed to finally sort it - looks like a loose connection in the ABS controller in the engine bay
I'm still left with one error which is the ABS Function Test - I need to take the car on a drive at 13mph and turn the steering between 90 and 180 degrees for it to reset this
~Fingers crossed - update to follow <crosses fingers>

13mph, that's very precise!
Do you have to do it with one finger on your nose and blindfolded too? lol
Good luck
-
^^ I didn't mention that you have to roll your trouser leg up too!
Bit exact is what I thought too - apparantly its equal to 20kmh !!
-
Good news
I think the last time I did this I had barely gone more than 5 miles an hour, full left, full right, hit the brake and the lights went out.
-
Well I tried allsorts of manouvres - took me a few places to find a car park big enough!!
Brake pedal pushed hard until ESP and ABS light flash alternate
Drive at 13mph  then a steady 10mph whilst trying to do between quarter/half turn without hitting anything!
So if you saw some silly bu99er driving slowly around Morrison's car park doing silly turns, stopping then doing it again, that was me!!
For the first time since about October, my dash has no warnign lights showing
Thanks for your help Mike - helped me sort it and I've learnt a few things along the way
