Title: Painting my wheels (mk3 content).....
Post by: snifferdog on 28 November 2010, 16:56
Just bought some cheap standard alloys for the golf with the intention of messing about/refurbing them, out of interest to see how I get on more than anything.

I know this question crops up again and again but what colour do you suggest? The car is dragon green. Any dragon green owners on here got different colour wheels?

Cheers.

Gunmetal colour would look nice on your car.

Gunmetal grey is the most tasteful colour but how abut gold   Anyway should you not be changing dirty nappies and making up bottles instead of spraying wheels ??  How is the little Snifferdog ??

I thought about gunmetal grey!  I will probably go for that. I have always liked gold wheels since I had a clio williams  :lipsrsealed:

Little Snifferdog (Lilah - Mae) is great mate. Thanks for asking. I havent had much sleep since they got home though. I never knew they cried so much. Ive been walking around the house with her at 4am for the last few days in a row. But like people always say - I wouldnt change it for the world.

Our eldest was a bugger....at the 4 am feed she would wake up and would only take her bottle from her mother but then to get back to sleep would only drop off if I was to walk her around the room so both of us had to be up.
I don't think Gold wheels would suit a Dragon Green car Buddy....either the Gunmetal Grey or a simple Black with Dragon Green lip if you want to get adventourous.

cool i was swayed against white at the last minute i think both would look good but i choose black because i like the stealth look get some window tints also think thats what sets my car off the most. It really helps in the summer keeps the sun out luvely and privacy just wind the fronts down when you go past the police as some dont like fronts done but i havn't been pulled over for 2 years touch wood show us a pic when you've made your choice btw i sprayed mine with 2 coats primer 4 coats spray paint which i had made up with hint of grey sparkle and 2 coats of laquer came up really well took an hour with a mate helping on two wheels but well worth it nice motor btw mine was completely standard when i got it absolutely mint took me 6 months to find a really mint one worth the wait though got leather yesterday to go in mine this week cant wait anyway nice one

Colour coded kits are ok if bought....don't spray them as they would look     CL door trims look good and I have to admit de arched would be the better option. I also removed the sill trim on mine to make it look loads better. The only Black trim on mine now is the front splitter.

Spot on painted arch trims are horrid.

Well, I chose Peugeot graphite grey. Ive started doing the first wheel and think it looks ok, I had a few nightmares with running paint where I concentrated the paint a bit too hard but hey its an experiment.  This pic is after the 2nd coat, there looks a few blemishes in the pic but they arent visible in person.

Couple more coats to do and then the lacqeur and hopefully will look

Ive ordered some new centre caps too.

I put the centre cap in to give an idea of what they will look like when i get the new ones delivered.

Dont listen to them! I did mine as a test as i was unsure, i think it looks good! They need to be done properly now though!

Cheers mate! I actually quite like your coded strips!

I painted the other wheels today, the finish is actually better than on the one I took the pics of, mustve been the practice. I got the front ones on but the snow was coming down quite quick and the car was sliding around on the jack  - so Ive got 2 grey wheels and 2 standard at the minute!

I was thinking of doing mine, its dragon green too and I was thinking gloss/piano black. I reckon it would look mint but I just wish I could afford some bigger and better wheels to do it rather than the standard ones. I was just looking at 2 tone ones too, which look amazing. Not sure which colours would suit though. Anyone got any suggestions for 2 tone?
