2001 AUM Golf Gti 1.8t, just had the lambda changed as it was bank 1 running rich, and new coilpack, but i'm still getting a problem when accelerating normally, most notably obvious in first gear
When you accelerate normally, (not hard, but not really gently) at about 2000 rpm, acceleration slows, and then picks up again. it is enough to throw you forward a little in the seat (e.g whilst leaning on the backrest, if the acceleration slows, you move forward off the backrest of the seat a little) it doesnt do it everytime, but happens quite frequently. can be quite embarressing with passengers when they are thrown foward a little :embarassed:
it is also noticable in second gear too at a similar sort of rev range, but just not as much throwing you forward. I though this could have been due to the overfuelling, but obviously not. There arent any other mechanical errors showing on diagnostic check. could this be a slightly faulty MAF, or a dirty throttle body, maybe something else, or might it be the fact that an oil breather has split? The turbo is also on its way out as the seals are leaking, and there is some play in the shaft, but it doesnt happen anywhere near when it starts boosting, so i wouldnt have thought it was anything to do with the turbo. Does anyone have any suggestions/help/advice?
Cheers

Exactly the same as my car mate, changed the temp sensor, whilst doing so I noticed that the breather hose had split so replaced that too, was ok for a short time but it happens again every now and then, Im going to clean the Throttle Body in the morn to see if its that. from what I read it is, but fingers crossed!

my money is on PCV system
-
+1 i recon its pcv system.
-
what do you have to do to fix the pcv system, which part - i dont really know much about the pcv system or what it does? how much is it going to cost est.?
-
Search on here for PCV system boost leaks or catch can. If you're going to replace PCV pipes with OEM ones you may as well go the catch can route for all the extra it'll cost....
-
New pcv pipes are £40 each some of them.. I fitted a catch can for £120 and it will never have a problem again..
-
what's a catch can?
-
i also get this "loss of power" its like the boost comes off between 2500-3100 rpm in second and thurd gear. only happens prob once in 15 gear changes.
i did clean the trottle body which was a little dirty but the problem is still occuring!!?? :undecided:
could this be the pcv system too???
sorry- dont mean to steal the thred!!!

A lot of MK4's suffer leaks in the PCV system due to the OEM pipes perishing. You can either replace them like for like or for around the same price you can replace with silicon hose and a catch can. This means you've less chance of suffering leaks and the nasty aerated oil can be emptied away rather than being recirculated into your turbo.
Use the search facility and look for PCV and/or catch can, there's been a number of threads posted about it.

as i'm going r-tech do you think they will be able to sort it out there or is it somethin i should try to do befor i get there?

Best to have it sorted before remap, although if you get all the bits you could book them to do it while you're there....
