Title: Does anybody know if mk3 fan will fit mk2?
Post by: Neo Badness on 24 November 2010, 23:16
Right, replaced my speedo cable. The speedo now works but now the fan doesn't. Checked the fuses and that was blown, replaced it as the wiper wasn't working, think they are on the same fuse(?)

Wipers now work but fan doesn't work on any setting, it was working before.
Like a tw@t I forgot to disconnect the battery before doing the speedo cable so suspect I fried something.

Was going to replace the actual switch then try the speed resistor.

Which brings me to my question, will a mk3 fan and speed resistor do/fit as replacement for the Mk2's?

Cheers

assume you mean blower fan? if so not directly its a different shape and resistor type. some careful modding might get it to go in though, you'll just need to splice the mk2 resistor onto the mk3 fan connectors. you'll see what i mean when you get one. cut a length of wire from the donor car, then splice 2 spades on the ends and pop those onto the mk2 resistor. tape up to ensure no  faults, then work out how to get the thing inside the dash

actually looking at pics on ebay, they might fit to dash no prob? the one i tried now i recal was an aircon one, which was totally different. let us know if it fits :P

Aye, the blower fan in the dash, the essential bit for this type of weather. I'll see what i can rustle up in the scrappy. Cheers for that I'll post up if it is a goer as I'm sure that'll help a few people in similar situation.

Indeed.

You can have months of research and developement, engineering finnese and an elegant design. For everything else there is Duct Tape
