I hate offers like this... rather, my wallet hates offers like this! I've been considering an R-Tech remap for a while but i simply cant justify the outlay until next year! whats the standard price of the remap?
Great offer!

I know the feeling Musicman. I can afford to get the map done but the insurance jump of £550 after i've done it is the killer....
If i could get the insurance at a reasonable level I'd be changing all sorts . Sadly it's going to have to stay standard until the insurance companies stop nobbling the area I live in!

I hadn't even thought about the insurance! I'd have no chance, being only 23, the insurance is high enough as it is!

Haha :D I'm 33, 8 years no claims (or is it 9 i forget). Married with kids parking the car on the street. It shouldn't be that bad but my postcode seems to hike it somewhat. Current insurance (Swift cover) don't support modded cars and when i got a quote from Greenlight, Adrian Flux and some other i can't remember, it was over £1k.
Shame cause it would have been awesome to have a nice remap on there :-(. I'm looking to move house to make it cheaper :D

Jeepers, I dont feel that hard done too after all! A few years back i took my Advanced driving test and became a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, for the sole purpose of getting cheaper insurance. I have 4 years no claims, park the car in a garage every night and live in a reasonable area (still with my parents  ), and my insurance is £650!
Worth looking into doing it really - if you go with their insurance company (Adelaide Insurance) you get free protected no claims, free European Breakdown cover and low excess (£150) - I've been with them for a good few years and their brilliant!

I take it that insurance company cover nodded cars then ??
I might give them a try next time insurance is due.

To be honest,im not sure if they cover modded cars or not, i haven't had a modded car since i've been with them. Definitely worth a try though, they insure my Mum on her Audi A2 for £224 per year!

Can I ask the obvious - what would that push me too? Sorry, I know nothing about the VAG engines?

You mean just a remap? On a nice healthy engine expect around the 240bhp mark
Here is my graph with an R-Tech remap

How long does this whole process take? Looking to book before Christmas, but don't have any annual leave left from work.

No more than a couple of hours but that depends if any problems are found with your car

So apart from price whats the difference between a R-Tech Remap and a Revo Remap?
It is my intention to just have a remap and want to have the car as near to original drive as possible with alot more mid range. Need it to drive like standard around the town as that where i spend most of my time. What other upgrades to guarantee reliability? Perhaps an upgraded engine mount? and the usual upgraded DV? Which one though?

Don't buy a remap that can't be installed back to the original code by yourself. This is to comply with the new MOT test that will fail cars with modified maps. ie. buy a Bluefin.

this is not true, when you understand fully about maps and ecus you will know a remapped car cannot and could not fail a mot.
maybe on car in 4 or 6 years time which are brand new and have new version ecus. one of my best mates is a calibrator and is part of a team who write map code from scratch and they are working to 2014 eu laws and no mention of a system for mot testers to check the ecu. i would even put money on it never happening to any car built before 2013.
-
The only new procedure which will involve plugging anything in will be for engine fault codes I cant quite remember from the coarse iv being on but I think they said that before the car is even looked at for mot the ecu will be read for fault codes and if any errors are found the car cant be tested … and they already do this in America I think?? And its coming over here I know that…. So weather they decide this means checking for a remap I don’t know but I cant see that one myself as long as it meets emission regulations then where is the problem???

This is part of the EOBD2 rules, the yanks have had this for a few years now. During the USA equivalent to the UK MOT the car gets plugged in to the obd port and the emission rediness setting get scanned and checked.
If there are any failed rediness setting then the car will fail. But a remap will not cause the rediness settings to flag up any fails. Its when you start to alter PARTS on the car which effect emission controls such as EVAP SIA and CATs.
The yanks are mad on tuning there 1.8Ts and 2.0TFSI and have not issues at all getting there annual test pass, but if you read up its only the guys running big turbos, sports/decats, sia and evap delete.
But if you find a really good tuner who has all the map setting files, they can fool the sytems rediness flags and get you a EOBD2 rediness pass even with all the emission control parts stripped out.
