I've just purchased and fitted an alpine double din headunit into my mk4 golf but its not turning off when i turn ignition off and remove key :undecided: any ideas?
-
Most likely need to swap the red and yellow wires around (I think)
I know it involves swapping wires but not 100% sure of the colour
Have a search as it has been covered before :smiley:

thanks! did look in search but cant find anything

i had the same problem with mine they did need swapping over is there no 2 wires with plastic covers over 2 connection that look like they can be disconnected its what i had to do.

Lol knew it was something simple but I never had to do it myself. The Pioneer h/u i had was a straight plug and play :shocked:
Just seen the pics of it - looks smart :afro:

Thanks :smiley: just need to get rid of the horrid wooden trim around it now :sick:

i reckon its better on a permanent live, always wired my hear units like that :wink:

Could that be why you're now having a problem? :undecided:

Hi there sorry to hijack! I just put a kenwood headunit in my mk 4, i have swapped the wires over but when i do i get no power to the unit at all? It is currently wired up to a permenant live? Could someone post up some sort of diagram as to what needs to go where? I have what looks to be a remote cable going to my second permenant live.
-
Mate, i found that you need to keep those two lives intact, i lost the fob completely, joined them back and the key worked, there should be a thread above with the wiring diagram or check out mk4 - i have left a thread in there about my key fob
-
So do both permenant lives go into the battery live on the headunit? My Ignition live does not seem to be working? When i look at the fuses all 3 of the fuse slots with the 'Ignition' symbol do not even have connectors to take fuses?
-
ok lets see if this helps the yellow wire from head unit must go to perm live the red wire must go to ignition live most mk4 come with 2 perm live that is why you will still have the head unit on with no keys in the car to fix this you can try swap the red and yellow wires round if this dont work then you need to wire a new ignition live to the head unit best done from fuse box but you could also take a feed from fag lighter
just as a help for anyone
from head unit
red = ignition live (you can join both yellow and red together then put them to a perm live but not a good idea as it may not be fused)
yellow = perm live
black = earth
orange/pink = illumination
blue = remote (use this for amp)
green and purple = rear speakers
white and grey = front speakers

1st of all before doing anything you need a multi meter to check for sure that there is between 12-14v on your permanant live, and the same with your ignition live (but obviously with the ignition turned on) then back track from there

now when i fitted my double din dvd in mine all my amps and head unit stayed on when key was out of the ignition due to this extra live feed so a cut the one that didnt go to my permenant live and ignition live... if you know what i mean... ive had no problems with anything atall since doing this
