Hi guys. As some of you know since I've had my clutch done in March (Valeo single mass kit from ECP, on a 99 AGU 1.8 20vt MK4) when I come off the power a bit hard, it sort of feels as if the car is jerking back and forth quickly a couple of times for half a second. My mechanic checked my mounts for me, engine and dog bone and checked they're tight etc. Couldn't find an issue. I have a polybushed dog bone mount also. Powerflex bushes...
But, I'm wondering if a new dog bone completely may be worth getting? Mines polybushed but I'm thinking of ways to rule out parts to see what the issue is. I was considering the R32 dog bone as people recommend these for less harshness in terms of vibrations at low RPM but still good shifting.
It's started doing this jerking a bit more pronounced now, like 3 or 4 jerks quickly when coming off the throttle and even going on the throttle hardish. It's rock solid to drive the car smooth with these annoying jerks lol. It's as if the car is rocking back and forth very quickly for half a second. Real weird to describe in words.
Do you think the dog bone (gearbox mount) is worth changing for peace of mind? I will have to get my mechanic to check my engine mounts again for wear/their condition. The engine mounts themselves were new a few yrs ago also!
Lastly is there any way you can inspect the condition of the clutch, flywheel and all that without removing the gearbox?
Thanks for any ideas folks.

Worth a try i guess though i doubt it is that :undecided:
You need someone like topher to drive it it will tell you whats wrong with it

I'm going to R-Tech sooooon for a TIP, 007p, health check on the rollers aswell etc so hopefully one of those guys can give it a run and give me an idea of whats knackered lol it's just annoying as it drove beautifully with the DMF setup. It's still not that bad now but it's enough to annoy me :D

Good plan you should try driving another MK4 with a SM fitted also

If it turns out be the clutch I will rip it out and stick a proper G60/VR6 + bolts combo in lol.

Anyone know the part number for the correct R32 dogmount which'd work fine on my 5 speed 99 AGU? Also how much are they if anyone knows?
Cheers :)

I have a similar issue to this also. I know, it is quite hard to describe. As if the engine looses all power for a split second then kicks right back in again. Not sure if yours is the same? Well, my MK4 I had before this had a DMF setup and it never did this. Looking through my history and it seems my current Golf has had the DMF replaced with a single when the clutch was done. I'm not really too happy with the drive also.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Adam :) Appreciate that.
No power loss issues, although a couple of times it's felt as if the clutch has taken a second to actually engage say changing 2nd to 3rd which is odd, not too often and not if I'm driving hard, just if I am pootling about, only done it a few times since March...
I would prefer have a DMF setup again without a doubt but you have to chance it, it's not THAT bad but having driven it with the DMF it felt nicer before :)
I'm wondering if I want a different car anyway.. I like the Golf but I quite fancy going back to my Vauxhalls, MK4 Astra SRi Turbos are cheaper now.. lol

Sounds like the TB, tried logging it, my TB could not align properly its angle would always be changing (I know AGU's are cable, but the butterfly valve can align a few degrees for carb deposits with the little motor and potentiometer on it). It would cut power randomly, judder when you apply power etc, sometimes when you want power it will start picking up speed, then a nice extra kick would come in, then it will have down syndrome again... I'd say TB especially with the judder issue?
-
Mine doesn't do any of that really. I can't describe what I mean but it's not a power related judder it's just as if mounts are loose and stuff is wobbling about on them lol

Upgrade all your bushes to polyurathane ones, you wont be disappointed :smug:

The back end is polybushed, wishbone bushes due soon... but might just use the Audi TT ones. Engine mounts.. nah don't want it too stiff/rough as don't want any more vibrations than I get with polybushed dog bone.
Will look into all that soon though if I keep the car :)
