Hi folks
I'm aware of other people have issues with wipers but with different symptoms to what my Golf has got.
On Sunday, without warning, the rear wiper completed a cycle whilst out driving. After a couple of minutes it was wiping continuously and without warning the fronts started. Regular speed setting but constant and unabated. The wiper stalk is definately set to the off position and hasn't become depressed. I've noticed that if I use the wash/wipe function on the rear it stops the front wipers from activating and they return to the off position on the windscreen. Release the wash/wipe and they start off again.
My prognosis at this time is that it would be the wiper switch in the column but just wondering if there were any others who've encountered the same problem and how they've cured it. I've disconnected the wires from the motors for now to stop them burning out, but with the reports of snow on the way I'd rather get this sorted sooner rather than later

id go with the stalks, only part of the system where everything is combined. either that or a nasty wire fault around the fusebox. check it for damp too

I would say the stalk as well dude
Have a nose on flee bay or ask on here someone will have knocking around

ive got a replacement stalk to fit, as mine were going nutts would hit a bump in the rad and bang jets spraying the windscreen and wiper going for it!
me and Horney looked at it and even cleaned the conections but i found one on ebay for £20 so just need to get round to fitting it

Quick (airhead) question- i'm taking it any standard MFA stalk will fit?
-
it needs to be a 90spec mk2 one, or mk3, or passat or corrado. pre-90 mk2, mk1 etc wont fit as the plugs and ign lock housings are different. you can fit a non-mfa 90spec one though, if you cant find a gti one. non-mfa can be had from mk3 polo, some seat models etc.
you might be able to pull the mfa end bit off and swap it over, i did try this with a pre-90 one but it wouldnt work as stalk was different. not tried on a 90spec yet tho

Thanks rubjonny
Am busy attempting to source one through the many breakers in the classifieds. Think there may be a result so fingers crossed
