Title: blower motor
Post by: Haribo! on 22 November 2010, 23:32
Always thought mine was a bit slower than the others ive had, the slowest speed is almost unnoticeable, What can go wrong with these?  Can it be like, greased up or something?

Yer, take it off, unclip the electrics, spray in it loadsa white grease then re-install. Possibly the quickest and simplest job i have ever done on my mk2

Mine has been making some really strange noise 4 ages now an even worse in winter,
Even with radio on louder can still hear it
Anyway i greased it still no good,
So 2day i went down scrappy an prised off the connector on the side of heater box,
Stuck it in my pocket  When i got home i swapped it with the 1 on mine,
Surprise Surprise its workin like a dream now,

Might be worth sealing up the leaf trap under the bonnet scuttle. The foam there perishes and when it rains, it tends to go down that hole onto the poor fan.

Against my will, I ended up sealing mine with some clear silicone to stop rainwater getting into the fan.

BTW, remember, once its greased, let it settle for a day or two, then close all the vents apart from 1 and put the fan on full speed with a cloth over the *only* open vent. Otherwise, you'll end up with grease all over your car!
