Right engine runs rough doesnt idle properly kangaroos down the road but found a split pipe put a new one on hey presto lots better,
so driving to the shops before i go to work, park up and steam everywhere now my thermostat has blown itself up so no heater and no thermostat, WHAT NEXT
-
a new thermostat?
-
yeah i know i got to get a new one
im just wondering whats next to go bang or stop lol
plus its good to have a rant when your really fooked off with your car
-
at the end of the day they are old cars and stuff goes wrong from time to time.
eventually you will have replaced everything and it'll be ok.............or the cycle will start again!
-
mine has been the same  current problem is the PAS pump is shagged! so got a second hand one on the way
-
I know that things go wrong and i expect it
but now the engine wont stop even when i take the key out it jumps and judders so i have to stall the engine to stop
it just seems like everything happens at once and ive only had the car a week today lol
-
This is part and parcel of what you get when you buy an older car.
They are chock full of things that need to be replaced and are 20+ years old. :undecided:
-
If you get though the first few months of ownership you will be ok. Its weird at first because these cars have a real personality that takes some getting used to.
Mine cuts out when cold, the boot key doesnt work, the heater doesnt work right across the screen, it sometimes misses second, it sometimes spits off a boost pipe (not cool on motorways), revs dont always catch when pulling up to a junction, sounds like aids when it starts (started motor i think) and i know to expect this but if i sold it to you, you would get pissed off and rightly so but after a while you just know when it might stall, that second is a little firmer ect ect
Dont worry, stick with it and sort out all the little wanky bits and dont be afraid to put a little cash into it.
-
sounds like aids when it starts
Haha i really shouldnt find that funny
Yeah but he's right, and it the exact same for me. Ive had my mk2 about 3 weeks now and its taken all that time to get it running properly! Bloody carbs will be the death of me... Webber soon
And when i first got it, it wasnt fun at 6am in the morning driving on the motorway seeing your own breathe the full journey to work
-
I think for me if i can hack the winter months with it ill be fine, in the summer it was great all i need to do is sort out my driverside electric window for summer and will be so nice being able to put the window down!! haha, for me its just time and money to sort things out
-
well guess what...........thats right my engine just died up a hill with a lorry behind me so i jumped out and pushed it up the hill
it overheated and the oil light and buzzer were going mad popped the bonnet steam everywhere and now wont start
any ideas guys I REALLY HOPE ITS NOT THE HEAD GASKET
-
TBH head gasket sounds like the best outcome you could ask for. If you've cooked your engine it could have seized.
Try turning it over by hand.
-
It turns over fine, I've found the leaks from the hose were it goes into the engine and on the flange on the right hand side of the engine it gushes out from both of them
-
Like I said, personality...
-
Mine did this, but it was a new engine. What happens when you try starting it?
-
when i try starting it, it will turn over but not fire and water comes out the top hose engine side and right hand side flange
and the oil light/buzzer is on,
its getting picked up tonight or tomorrow to be looked at i just hope its not too expensive otherwise i might aswell just buy a new car
-
Not as bad as mine then, I needed a full top end rebuild. Hard luck though mate
-
cheers mate hopefully it will be sorted by the end of the week
and as for personality..... well it sucks but i can change her personality and make her look better kinda like a virtual girlfriend lol

Cheaper to run than most birds!! And no lip either....
If you heater works you get a good blow job too...
-
I think you need to spend less time with your car!
-
lol well the heater doesnt work so that rules out a good blow job lol
but then again having a girlfriend rules out any chance of one as well
-
Wait til you get married - you get nowt - then you need the car to fill the gap!!
-
i can imagine thats next on her list, shes just started talking about moving in together so id imagine the next natural progression is to get married and become a very horny young man who spends too much time sitting in his car lol
-
hi redgolf
all that is said is true.
ive had my mk2 8valve for a couple of years, replaced 1 head gasket, all the exhaust, ignition system, all the gear linkage, header tank, cam belt and power steering belt, all the brake discs and pads, various bushes on the suspension, & brand new suspension all round.
that said the car is a dream to drive.
keep tinkering and dont let it beat you.
if it is really bad you could always buy mine, it listed in the cars for sale section.
but seriously, good luck.
-
oh yeah dont get me wrong im keeping it, i just wish everything wouldnt all happen at once lol
but saying that i dont thing my mechanic is complaining £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ in his pocket
in all fairness if you by a mk2 for £300 i kinda gotta expect these things
-
how about that for a stoke of luck,
the recovery guy just came to pick up the mk2 and it turns out he is a mk2 enthusiast so for starters hes going to sort out a mates rates price for recovery and he has a set of wolfrace multi spoke alloys with brand new tires that he had on his mk2 that i can have for £60
so every cloud and all that
-
Banging that mate
-
exactly what i thought
