Hi,
First I would like to thank a couple of people, dom069 your irony and useful tips have kept me going and horney, you input has been of help as well.
First I will explain the car 1992 Golf Mk3 GTI-V8! 1.8
The issue:
Rev's more between 400-800-1100-2000-400-stall
The things done so far:
1. TB taken off and cleaned
2. ISV taken off and then replaced, then new one on
3. Mass air flow changed
4. All air hoses removed and cleaned
5. Dizzy done
6. plugs done-leads done
7. Lambda sensor removed-and replaced
8. all leads checked and wd40 sprayed to check for air leaks.
if the exhust is incorrtly fitted would this casuse an idle problem, I also removed the dip stick while it was running and this seemed to enhance the issue.
any ideas? thank you
i'm now thinking it could be the timing belt out and also the TB needs realineing
-
A GTi V8 ? that's a serious mod! or maybe you mean an 8V
Not wanting to jump in on the other guys help..but your getting there for sure,
Don't forget those pesky relays..not sure of the numbers on a 1.8.. !
Water temp sensor..? and by all means check the timing and TB alignment..
-
Id check the breather pipes (very common for splitting) seeing as you mention the idle is affected whilst removing the dipstick.

No problem, I aim to please :afro:
In truth i'm supposed to be writing a critical reflection on how ICT contributes to the Personalisation Agenda, so i'm taking any opportunity to distract myself from it, I just happen to be in a bit of a sarcastic mood today

since when has a mk3 gti only been a 1.8?

since when has a mk3 gti only been a 1.8?
 Didn't notice that!
-
I did..and it's a V8 ! but..you never know with these things,
-
Ok, typo by me? 8v not v8.
have changed the 30 relay the ECU one
have changed the 167 fuel relay
done them as well....
how do you check the timing any pictures or links to follow:
-
No worries ole chap, we all do typos..
Not exactly sure which model you have.. 1.8 !? anyways, a manual will help..show you how to line up the timing marks on the flywheels for TDC, then line up dizzy rotor arm..again according to your model,
If it's a 1.8 Mk3.. you sure it's not a CL/GL or a Driver spec'd up body wise to a GTI ?

hi,
the car is a 1992 - vw golf gti 1984cc engine number: 2e157292 is that any help !!!!
-
Certainly is..but that means it's a 2.0.. not a 1.8 !
A bit confusing to begin with..
-
I have found a hole in the hose at the bottom of the air box driver side the one that looks like it goes to the bottom og the TB at the back....
And the timing belt looks new. Maybe not set correct. . What do u think..
-
Yes any pipework whether it's air intake/hose/breather or vacuum lines need to be in good order, you could tape up the hole temporarily to see if it makes any difference but replace it soon as you can.
As for the static timing marks i'm not sure if it's different form the AGG engine as per mine..someone will advise on your 2E engine i'm sure..
-
dude if you put your foot on the accelerator peddle and hold it down so it hits 2000rpms,then does it start dropping,so when you take your foot off the peddle it stools??????
mine did this and ive just got a 2nd hand idle control valve for 16 quid and its sorted!!!!!!
if it is the same prob then try and find someone on here whos breaking an early gti 8v as the laters ones are different
