Has anyone fitted this to their car or got any information of who does it and the cost? Wife wants it for the winter so the car is warm before she gets into it ! Also may be a good thing for the new Edition 30 we have just bought

I might be wrong but I believe it is illegal to leave a car running unattended.
-
I'm not sure on legalities, but I remember clifford used to do an alarm set that did this.
I would think that is it not illegal due to the fact that turbo timers are designed to run the engine when the key is removed to allow the turbo to cool and spool down. This can keep the engine on for nearly 5 mins after the key is removed and the car locked.

Must be a big grey area then. :undecided:

Can you get auxiliary heaters? :undecided:
On some cars you can order 'pre-heaters' which warm both the engine and the interior and can be set to come on at certain times
Not sure if you can retro-fit factory stuff or at least buy an after-market kit :undecided:

defo illegal on a manual car.
-
Not illegal on a manul car as long as the doors stay locked and there is a fail safe fitted to the gear lever that doesn't allow the car start if it is in gear.
Toad do a kit that has this feature, but not cheap though! it is alot more that the auto kit....I'll try to find the link for you.
-
The offence is called "quitting" and this can only occur on a Public Highway. It is a law to prevent other law breaking so a car running and secure/locked does not contavene the law.
-
I know they used to be available linked to an Alarm....possibly made by Clifford but cannot find anything now....
Pre Heaters are available but are generally only sold in really cold climates where the Oil Freezes and the Oil etc needs to be kept warm when the outside temp is lower than -30 or thereabouts

I had a HAWK one on my old mk2 clio.
Unfortunately left it in gear and accidently started it. All i could do was wait for the 5 second count down, then watch it launch into the back of my mother's Audi A5.
Useless piece of kit! (infact i think i have a video of it starting somewhere  )

They used to be linked to alarms but if you fit one of these devices they now void the thatcham certification of your security system and thats why they are now sold as a seperate item.

On Audi's you can get pre-heaters which warm the cabin and seeing as the MK5 / A3 share the same platform I wondered if you could retro-fit it to the Golf :undecided:
