Title: fuel prob-again!
Post by: 15 inches on 23 August 2003, 09:49
annoying fuel problem-please help
? on: August 22, 2003, 23:23 ?

-IVE PUT THIS ON THE GARAGE SECTION ..ANY IDEAS ON HERE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED CHEERS ;D-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a mk2 8v,pb gti.
When you take your foot of the accelorator the car seems to jerk, rather than gradually ease down.
This started some months ago,the car drives great whilst accelorating but when you come off the gas say in traffic the car feels like its in the wrong gear .
If you drive in first and take your foot off the gas its as if the fuel has been cut and the car jerks forward, then again when you press the accelorator. If you came on and off the gas in 1st ,the car would kangaroo down the road..
After much advice and ???'s spent, the car is still the same

replaced:-cambelt -battery,fuel filter, dissy cap and rotar arm, leads and plugs tci-h switch, air flow meter, idle speed valve and coil. The car has been set up by a VW centre and runs on 98ron fuel.

The car has a stainless steel exhaust and k@n pannel filter-its also my pride and joy please help

regards..

Get the timing checked, if out will do all sorts of strange things.

Sounds more like a fuel problem to me. Fuel pump or relay maybe?

Or maybe the fuel accumulator. I would get the fuel system checked for pressure.

You will prob find that when driving and want to accelerate you might need to kind of blip the throttle slightly once before it surges forward.

If that is so then you might need to check the fuel system and get the injectors, hoses and pump looked at etc
Title: Re:fuel prob-again!-WHICH PUMP?
Post by: 15 inches on 25 August 2003, 21:24
Which pump do u think may be the fault? the 1 in the tank seems to make the right noises!
Ive took the advice about the throttle switches, but that wasnt the fault, again when you come off the accelorator the car seems or rather engine seems like the fuel has been cut-although the revs come down smoothly enough..

I would try changing the fuel pump relay first of all , quite cheap. If this makes no difference look at the accumulator, sounds like there might be a problem with the system pressure.

When the engine is ticking over, wiggle the electrical connections to the fuel injectors, ign amp, air flow meter etc. Could be a poor connection or a broken wire. Steve.

I'm replying to everyone with a fuel problem. I had major probs with mine changed almost every sensor and valve. Had it set up by VW but still no joy. Went back to basics and checked the fuel filter. It was clogged up. The tank was full of muck. I flushed it out and replaced the fuel filter. It now runs like a dream. Hope it helps.
