took the passat to vw for service. on the report the were sayinf the pads are 50% worn erm so what? oh better not do more than 15,000 miles then, and apparently the disks at the front are a bit rusty :undecided:
best bit of all was when i asked hows the rear disks? answer 'they must be fine as they are not on the report'. my answer 'oh, well they must of fixed themselves then'
the rear disks are shafted i know as when i changed the rear pads there was big groves in them and the outer perimeter was worn down due to bad calpier design.
i like my golf and i like the passat but the dealers are useless and unhelpful imo.
when i go to bmw they show how dealers should be, alway knowlegeable and helpful (with the 6 they even print out the assembly of the parts (if i ask) from the computer so i can fit it)
a frien who has a vw has said they are probably never going to buy another, not because they dnt like the car but because they hate dealing with vw

I try to stay away from stealerships as much as I can, My brother in law works for a Skoda dealer so I know the stunts they pull.
I would try and find a reputable garage that can do the same work, cheaper and more reliable
-
I wouldn't ever use the stealers either but I get carries point of why are the BMW stealers good but the VW stealers aren't ? :undecided: Although I've also heard bad things about BMW to be fair, and even basic service requirements like replacing fluids etc not being done yet charged for..

As we've said so often on here before, the dealers let down a fantastic product. How long is it going to take VW to address this problem!!!!!
-
Like with any private business the dealers are only interested in making money - most are large companies that can change alliegance if they so choose, so dont have a great loyalty to the marque.
Now that their monopoly has been ended they care even less!
-
personally never had a problem with bmws work, the biggest difference between the two for me is bmw are interested in my old 628csi and help wherever they can with advice. but vw dealers (and i have been to a few now) seem to always have the attitude my mk1 golf is old and i should buy their new one.
vw have sent me to other garages for parts and when i get there they dont have them, i ask for advice and all they tell me is i can book it in, a lot of the parts are obsolete for my golf.
bmw call my 6 up on the computer and all optional extras are listed with the original owner etc i.e. they have full records of a 21 year old car, all the parts i want are available (ie i can buy an entire front end if i ever crash it (albeit at a large cost). if the parts department cant answer a question they go into the mechanics and ask them, they even show an interst in the restoration asking me if i am going to bring it in when its finished so they can see it.
it just seems to be a totally different attitude, i sort of expect ford to be bad with their service but as vw is german i suppose i expect better, its a shame as vw know how to build cars but their lax aftercare puts me and a few people i know off them.
-
rich, i have spoke to vw uk before and they dont seem bothered either
also recently they did a recall on passat recently on a suspension control arm that had a design fault. but unless you have fvwsh you have to pay for the repair. EVEN THOUGH THIS ITEM DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY MAINTENANCE, it would appear to me that they were just cost cutting and hoping the customers had paid for the work already while it was in for inspections
-
My golf has never seen the dealers since i had it, when i first got it i wanted it serviced, VW wanted ?300!!! for what new plugs, oil, aif filter etc, i nearly fainted in the showroom!
My boyfriends dad has a mate who runs a decent garage, ?90 and i had the lot done.
-
same cost for our passat, but had they managed to actually spot the worn disks on the back it would of been worth it, instead i am left wondering what else they missed
-
i know what you mean,
you always wonder whether they actually doing what you have paid for, or if they have missed something important!
-
Good point about them not being interested due to the age of the car though, they need some real enthusiasts to work there and then the service might well get better.
-
I love going into the dealership. I say "I want an oil filter for a 180bhp TT" "what's the vehicle reg sir?" "D144GYN" "errr" Class.
Look idiot - just give me a filter for a 20vT, they're all the same!
-
It is disappointing when a good car is let down by a poor dealer.
I was lucky by the sounds of it - the dealer I used to service the PD when I had it was absolutely superb, nothing was too much toruble and they always did a spot on job.
Carrie, do you have any otrher main dealers near you? Can you give your business to someone else? I'm guessing its a new one and you're using stealership for warranty purposes? if so I would deffo consider other dealerships - in fact, take the day out and come up and use the one I did - you will definitely be impressed!!!
-
a cousin of mine worked for Sytner BMW in Customer Services. he would be the person you booked the car in with, and who handed you the bill. from what i know of his job, BMW UK take a big interest in all the customer departments at the franchises. each customer services rep is graded weekly and BMW UK do the follow up calls. if you want to retain your franchise then its serious sh*t.
-
what you need is a friend who works at vw then all becomes a lot easyer on teh parts side for your pocket and help wize.
The workshop side I tried 2 different dealers years ago and both times had a car messed up by them, so I won't even go there again for a try.
they don't like old cars!
-
steps unfortunatly round my way all the vw dealerships are owned by the same company as far as i know. i am going to try to find one that isnt.
thing is g6 you shouldnt have to know people to get good service vw really need to consider wether they want to stay in business and keep their repuatation.
as for old cars bmw actuaully discount the service costs for any car over four years to encourage owners to keep the service history up, i.e. the old cars are just as important to them as the new ones, which from a business point of view is good for them as well serviced and maintained cars keep the re-sale values up.
oh and we worked out that the labour rate was on par with bmw too  .

rite a bit ago when the new reg plates came out my uncul got a new car, (civic) so off 2 c the dealer we go n he just wasent intrested , n dident giv a fook if u asked me, just handend my uncul leaflets and said come back next week,
well, wasent inprested there. so we went to a diffrent honda dealer, some 1 came over n spoke within 5 mins was atop bloke and had a good talk cup of tea the lot.
bet neway my point is. its the peeps that make a place good or not.
some are good and no there stuff, otheres dont care, dont no jack, n dont give a poo.
rant over, lol

but i really think the manufacturers of certain makes need to come down on the dealers a bit if i was a car manufacturer i would rather lose a couple of bad dealers than customers.
i still mainain my point that a dealer is the representative of the car therefore if the dealer is bad your opinion of the car will be too
-
yeh u got a point there carrie

From my experience I wont be using BMW dealer again - only my local garage who I trust. The BMW dealer have been among the worst garage I've had the mis-pleasure of dealing with - missing obvious faults etc etc and general crap customer service - it usually take 10-15mins of holding before you can ever speak to someone and if you leave message on answer machien they never call back!
I think it is down the the individual dealers as to if good or bad rather than the specific manufacturers.
-
Never heard them called 'stealerships' before

Never heard them called 'stealerships' before???
REALLY?!!
LOVE your bronze cab by the way - looks the bo**ocks!

carrie.. i'm very surprised they missed the rear disks... i've found (and since seen from friends with VWs) that the stealership I work next door to -are- good at finding "problems" with cars.. but they do it to a fault and pile on excess and often unnecessary work.
however.. i will say that (maybe because i've been in there so many times) their walk-in parts department is always very helpful (back door) BUT the (shiny front door) sales/'aftercare' part of the business lets them down in a major way. the sales staff are a bunch of grumpy miserable so n so's. I expect they have quota's or something to meet..
i now use a local independent VW specialist.. which happens to be run by two VAG trained guys.. the main owner guy 'took' the chief mechanic with him when he started the business... they both originally came from richardson's seat dealership in wellington.. the dealership went bust sometime last year... these guys are growing and growing.
they're really top guys. its really great to be able to talk to the guy that actually worked on your car
i also find you need less notice to get into a local specialist.. unless its someone nationally recognised like TSR who i have to see about my alarm since they're the local Toad alarm people.
thus far the specialist has been able to accommodate me and my friend (who has a 4motion) on the next day after we've called without fail..

took car to vw in edinburgh with a clonking problem. It came back and they reckoned that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it and that the clonking noise was the fact that a back exhaust bracket had disintegrated. Even though i had managed to tie the rear box up with zip ties to the same standard that the bracket was doing. I knew that there was no way that that was, what was making the noise. Turns out It was a f**ked engine mount. I asked them how they managed to miss that the engine was trying to climb out when it was in gear. They said to be honest i should think about getting a new golf because mine was now 17 years old and that they dont even really entertain cars older than ten years. They didnt want to look too hard because at 70 quid an hour it could have soon gotten up to a lot of money. Gave me loads of sh!t and i just told him that if it wasnt for the earlier models of the gti then they wouldnt be singing about the mk5 and that he probably wouldnt have a job! The guy was totally ended
-
overseer i was shocked they never mentioned the rear disks, when i said to them well you missed the rear disks, they said oh, well its not in the report????
marco, yeah as if they need to look hard to find a broken mount.
-
if were slagging off VW stealerships try this.
my valver many year ago had a serious overheating problem. nothing was obvious.
car went to VW - they reckoned it needed a new engine @ ?1500. that wasnt going to happen so the car then went for a few days a mechanic we knew. a week later the car was returned with a ?100 bill for a new water pump.
the overheating was due to the fact that water pump had no splines on it and so wasnt swishing the water around. so much for the "cracked block" guess from VW.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah lmfao
I think that just about tells it all with that last story
I guess there was quite a bit of teeth sucking and mentions of "ooh that's gonna cost ya"
