I am thinking about getting rid of my MkII 8v and getting a MkIII VR6.
What do you guys think?
Anyone got experience of both?
Any particular things to look for when buying a VR6?
-
Insurance!.. thats what put me off into buying my mk3 valver.
there is a good buyers giude in the mk3 section here.
-
The buying guide is good.
Good service history is vital.
Check out www.vr6oc.com (http://www.vr6oc.com) for some excellent knowledge and advice.

When i bought my 16valver the insurance difference between the 16v and the vr6 was not that much, the thing that put me off the vr6 was its thirst for fuel.
And i would recomend the mk3 buyers guide its well worth a read.
And dont listen to all the mk2 boys, mk3's are good cars!
-
that may depend on age and experience.. for me it was a difference of about 500 quid
700 for a valver... 1200 for a vr6 (or some companies just wouldnt touch me..)

I've got a VR6 lump to drop in my MKII which will hike the insurance from ?390 to just under a grand. Think I'm gonna leave that mod till I'm over 30 (Only three years!) as having two mentally modded cars is just too expensive.

Insurance is a lottery, best thing to do is get some quotes. My renewal was ?750 this year with Elephant.co.uk. I'm 22 with 1 year NCB. It's a lot to pay for insurance but much less than i expected.
-
^ is that third party only?
-
No, it's fully comp with legal cover and all the other bits. Quite a high excess though, ?150 compulsary plus ?250 voluntary, or vice versa, but ?400 in total.
-
JTE that sounds cheap!? Well, for me anyway, i'm 23 with zero NCB and elephant have quoted me at ?2000!! and that's just third party with fire and theft.? ?

Insurance is highly dependant on where you live, mine premium dropped by ?150 just from moving 3 miles away, in same town, same WA7 Post code, just different area!
