Title: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: The Doc on 17 November 2010, 08:56
Thoughts?

BTW you can always spend LESS or a LOT LESS if you like or a little more but not over say £350 (ish)

Also if you want reverse cam you have to upgrade the radio!

I'm kind of going to have to order the 5 door cars but I'm interested to see how many people would opt for 3 and £500 of toys

Market research

My second attempt made this:

Reverse Camera £160
Bluetooth £240
Leather Trim £1815
Lux Pack £125
5 doors FREE

This would be my choice, tempted by the Dynaudio as i've had this in a Passat and it's a very good system. If you need some quotes running for leasing costs let me know, it'll give you a comparision to the ones you have already.

Bluetooth
Sunroof
Leather
Service pack
Winter pack
Lux pack
White paint

If it was me and i was buying them for work i would stick to pretty much standard fit.Why waste your money.

Says the company accountant

Fair point though, apart from bluetooth which would help the company with it's duty of care responsibilities they get a pretty good spec to start with.
Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: danski on 17 November 2010, 10:37
I`ve voted with pretty much what I ordered, but was also wondering, are you looking to spec them for the best resale value too, or do you keep them and run them into the ground before selling on to some poor sap?
Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: jeremybarker on 17 November 2010, 10:41
I was going to mention if your leasing then it's simply what the options cost as extras on top but as the last post says if your buying them then some options are going to increase the rv more than others, leather is generally the best option for retaining value in a car imho.

Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: am1w on 17 November 2010, 10:56
ACC has not been included. It is a must option especially with larger wheels and very helpful on our bad roads.
Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: The Doc on 17 November 2010, 11:15
I have it on my car and it's good but I mostly have it in standars mode! I won't be ordering any with it as I'd rather have Bluetooth and winter by the looks of the survey so would everyone else!

I left sat nav off as I can put it in on site if required.

Same could be said of Bluetooth but you don't get the mast on the roof when fitted aftermarket.

Doc: Thou art wrong regarding ACC. Plesae put it as an option for my sake.
One other thing, should it not be front and rear parking sensors for £420?
Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: Agreeable Slick on 17 November 2010, 11:27
ACC on a fleet of company cars is complete false economy.

They are presumably going to be racking up pretty high milage whilst they are with you, so it would make more sense to go with things that are going to make the drivers life easier in terms of communication and servicing costs.

I went for

Silver
5 Door
Cruise
Storage pack
Service Pack
Lux Pack
Winter Pack
Reversing Camera
Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: PenguinGTI on 17 November 2010, 12:11
I went with

DSG (I understand though that many prefer the manual but I like the peace of mind and ability to relax with the DSG)
Cruise (always useful)
5 doors (because it said free and also because company cars can often be used for family work and so 5 doors are more practical)
Black or white (don't reckon you need to fork out of metallic paint especially when those two colours look so good)
Flat tyre
Storage pack
Service Pack (reckon this is very useful)

I do agree with some of the comments on here that the standard car is more than equipped for life as a company car. I would be chuffed to get a manual GTD in either flat black or white as a company car.

Where's the box for "remap"  I'd be ticking that!!!

I went for silver 5 door with cruise, bluetooth and the service pack
Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: Keithuk on 17 November 2010, 12:27
You don't have red or blue colours?

I've never heard of Alloy upgrade £410. If you talking about the wheels then you only had a choice of Seattle's or Vancouver's as this thread says GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours? I presume your talking about option on that only?

If I had known what I know now I would have had cruise, RCD510\RNS510 and parking sensors as an option.

Oh 5 doors FREE aren't free you have to pay for more doors.
Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: Keithuk on 17 November 2010, 12:35

5 doors (because it said free )
GTD 3 door £23,645 5 door £24,230
GTI 3 door £24,395 5 door £24,880

So 5 doors aren't free.

Cruise and Nav can be easily retrofitted for a lot less money so I would avoid that.
Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?
Post by: gizzywizzy on 17 November 2010, 16:05
To be honest if they are to be company cars to be run into the ground I reckon the basic spec is more than adequate.

True but the only VW model that cruise is standard is the GT but you find its been standard on a lot of Seat models for many years that pi***s me off. Why should we have to pay 25k for a car then pay a lot more for basic extras? thats coming into the BMW way of thinking.
Title: Re: GTD - What are the crucial options and Colours?

I would say there are no crucial options or colours...
Unless they will be pool cars, why not allow the staff using them choose the options?
If I was working for the firm I would bemuch happier paying the BIK for 'my' car...

My MK4 Golf was an MY02 and registered in November 2001.  Same goes for my Audi - its an MY08 car but registered in September 2007

Correct its still sale bull, its doesn't matter what you are buying a car or a bleeding washing machine you can't be buying something thats advertised 2011 in 2010 that against the trade descriptions in any country.

Its just a name at the end of the day.  You only get unstuck when you advertise a 2011 model but sell someone a 2010

PS - The Trade Descriptions Act does not exist anymore

I do feel lucky, no infact blessed when I read your accurate posts full of in depth knowledge and factual accurate facts.

Thank you, please continue to enlighten me on 2010 spec (2011MY to the majority) cruise control fitting, what parts are required and the coding required. I'm assuming your car is infact a 2009 spec (2010MY to the majority)

Really, really off topic BTW so shall we start a new thread on this as I feel it's going to go on and on and on and on and on.....

Doc,

I would go for

DSG
Cruise
RCD 510 and sell the RCD on ebay and Retrofit RNS510
Reverse Camera
Bluetooth
Winter Pack / and then Winter Tyres.
White
3 Door
Flat tyre ind
Service Pack

I went for a in stock car for a great price as i did not want to wait until March. So I still need to retrofit RNS510 / Camera / Bluetooth / Cruise.

I also miss my xenons from my ED30 so will prop fit those as well at some point

Love the ACC.
Simply cannot drive the car in 'normal' mode in Central London.
In 'sport' mode the car feels as hard as a corpse on viagra.
'Comfort' is the mode for me as I love the Magic Persian Carpet ride!

ACC is a real mood thing.

Comfort for the Monday morning trek to work, normal/sport for the weekends or when you want to enjoy your journey home.

Fantastic.
Should be standard spec really, probably will be on the run out models in a couple of years.

In hindsight, I would not order 18" wheels. But ACC + 17" would make the car even smoother riding.
I got driven in one recently with 17" + ACC. Loved it.

and faster......
and cheaper....
and cheaper tyres...
and less kerbing... (cheaper if you do)
and no white worm...
and better in the winter...
And wayyyy more comfortable.

Well when I asked at the stealers about fitting it for the list £220 I said it only £60 for the switch and you programme it. Yes it sounds simple but they don't always programme correctly first time we have to do a lot of fiddling.

I have fitted a few of these you know......

Dealers charge 162 quid for supply and fit on pre 2011MY and the official stance from VW is that it cannot be retro fitted on 2011MY vehicles.

I'm nearly there I think but the parts alone have cost over 190 plus vat so far.

As suspected you have dragged this thread well of topic BTW so anything else on cruise why not put it in the 2011MY cruise thread?

If we're getting into diseasal bashing again then....

Ode To The Diesel

Once upon a time, long, long ago,
I had a little motor, just for show,

It was a great car, went a long way,
But it had a few rattles and was a bit ghay,

Took ages to warm up and made a loud noise,
It didn't drink much but  had little poise,

I didn't know , but all my mates did,
It was a DIESEL and and I had to get rid.

Oh oh I bought a 1.8T too slow
Thought it'd beat Type-Rs but oh no.
It's dog slow, and in corners it tends to wallow
Like paying a hooker to find out she don't swallow.
Should bought a mk2 or mk5 GTi
Kinda feel like I've been jizzed in the eye
Time to go for a remap, but even then the handling will be kinda pap

Ode to the GTi by Sir Cliff Richard
Words adapted by am1w

When I was young my father said
"Son I have something to say",
And what he told me I'll never forget
Until my dyin' day.
He said, "Son you are a GTi boy,
And that's the way to stay,
Son, you be a GTi boy until your dyin' day".

When I was sixteen I fell in love
With a girl as sweet as could be.
But I remember'd just in time
What my daddy said to me.
He said, "Son you are a GTi boy,
And that's the way to stay.
Son, you be a GTi boy until your dyin' day."
