Title: Claying glass?
Post by: Jimble on 16 November 2010, 19:47
As the title says, i've recently purchased the megs smooth surface kit and have tried it on my brothers roc to great effect however i haven't had chance to do my own yet, anyway i've got a strange issue going on with the bottom right corner of my windscreen but still in my eyeline, it's like the screen or wiper is dirty and just smears all the time even though i've cleaned both thoroughly (sp) so thought i'd try claying it to see if that helps before replacing the wiper as the cars only 6 months old! Was wondering if i just use the QD that came with it? Cos i didn't think you were supposed to put waxes etc on the glass?
I know that was a bit long winded but any advice would be great, cheers.

It's more than fine to use quick detailer on glass.
As mentioned there are better clay kits out there. Poorboy's quick detailer is very good and bilt hamber clay is probably one of the best out there.
You can actualy wax glass. It helps the rain slide straight off, however, you do have to be careful on the windscreen. Quick detailer will cause you no issue at all.

Cool beans! Thanks lads n lasses for the quick replies, i basically got the the megs kit cos thought it might be a good place to start tbh, not too abrasive plus it was a bit short notice doing my bros car so got it from halfrauds! I'll be getting the next kit from waxamomo so i'll probably go for the dodo stuff cos i'm really liking their stuff atm!
Cheers all i'll give it a go!

IMO don't be afraid to try outside the Dodo range.
There are some very good products out there.

The Dodo juice clay kit it actually cheaper - http://www.waxamomo.co.uk/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=264&idcategory=4

Granted, you dont get the cleaner wax (not that good anyway) or the microfibre towel, but you get 3 bars of clay and better lube - this is the one i use and i think its great!

ive got the megs clay kit, although not tried it yet, with megs, you can use the normal quik detailer or nxt speed detailer, not the ultimate, dodo juice do 2 different types of clay i believe, along with the lube, although im to beleive some clay bars can use water? rather not thanks, lol, let us know how you get on, i have some, which seems to be metal shards embedded into my windscreen on the inside, which would come from something like welding, but i dont know what they are, so this is a good idea

Bilt hamber you can use just water and from what I'm told it's great clay.
