Title: poor idle when cold
Post by: byebye on 16 November 2010, 18:57
hiya, as above my 8v 1990 digi golf gti wont idle in the mornings without me sitting there holding it at around 1000 rpm, if i let go it just dies away, starts again ok...but it annoys me now its done it ever since I got it about 2 years ago. I was thinking maybe its the ISV? once warmed up its fine for the rest of the day
Any ideas? can these ISV be cleaned? checked? oh and the other day whilst under the bonnet I heard it buzzing dont think it normally does that ? :undecided:
Thanks guys

your isv is supposed to buzz thats normal  check your vac hoses and rocker cover bung for splits will cause poor idle, check your blue temp sender, check and reset if neccasery your idle. have a read of rj"s tune up guide loads of good info and pointers

cheers, yeah i replaced my blue sender not so long ago, and the flying saucer bung last week. i'll have a look at the vac hoses when the rain stops if ever  I'll also re-read rj's guide again

i had the same problem recently after car was laid up for 2 years. it wouldn't idle at all. it was fine once up to temp but i had to hold the revs to get it warm

do rj's idle set up or as per haynes.  give the idle screw a good clean up to.

my idle screw was minging. once it was cleaned out it was spot on.
