Title: Immobiliser Problems
Post by: thebr on 16 November 2010, 17:35
Hey all,
I cant get the car started, the immobiliser is kicking in and preventing it from starting.

I've tried 2 separate keys, both with the same result.

A VAGCOM scan on the Immobiliser cluster shows no faults, however i do get the following on the engine cluster:-

17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
            P1570 - 35-00 - -

I've done some sniffing around and i wondered if this was likely to be the pick-up ring given that two keys give me the same result and there are no Immobiliser faults detected?

If so is this a VW garage only thing or can any garage fix this and if so how much am i looking at?

Or are there any guides around to show me how to fix it (unless you think it could be something else).

Thanks for looking.

did the key work before?

you need your skc if your gonna recode the keys which if you havent got, youll have to get from dealers

Try re-programing the keys first but as already said you will need your SKC first to do it

thought you could reprogram the keys by doing something along the lines of putting them in the ignition and locking the car  or something? (may be compleatly wrong as we all know im a fountain of wrong info :) )

^that's for the remote locking

check fuses first, a blown ecu or dash fuse (possibly others) will make the immobiliser kick in. if yours is a immo3 equipped car (2001+) you can check if the keys are being recognised with vagcom measuring blocks.

Managed to reprogram the key with VAGCOM.

Replaced the 3 30A fuses next to the battery (99 MKIV GTI Non Turnbo Immo2) as a precaution, i was in there and reseated them and it worked after that so i thought why not, although none were looking faulty.

Not had the problem since and the car has started every time (so far)....
