Title: Possible water route?
Post by: Haribo! on 16 November 2010, 14:28
Ok, so I actually checked my front water drainage holes under my scuttle cover and they were totally blocked so clearly the reason/part of the reason im getting puddles.

However, My largest amount of water was at the back of the car in the passenger footwell, ive looked and theres a hump between the front and rear so I assumed at first that my leak must have been coming from the back, but now im wondering if perhaps theres gaps under or through that hump for wires and stuff that the water could have travelled through?

Thing is I dont want to take up my carpet to dry everything out until I can be fairly sure the leak is solved.

So the question of the day is, Can a leak from the front of the car make its way to the rear passenger footwell?

As always, total legend :D

I'll start on drying things up and see where we get then.

If you've got wet carpets and underlay, I'd get them out and dry them as soon as you can.

It's a dead easy job and will give you the chance to hoover out crap that hasn't seen the light of day for 20 years.

Yeh I fully intend on doing it, just would rather do it once rather then spend time sorting it out only for it to get soaked again the next day, thats why I wanted to be sure that the problem was a possible cause beforehand :)

if you take your carpets out you can see if the things you are doing are stoping the water from coming in and once you dont see water in the footwells anymore you can put the carpets back happy that you have a nice dry golf

Thing is I need to do it in a day, Ive got no where dry to store the carpet in the mean time.

have you checked the door membranes as well?

also, whilst the scuttle cover's off it's worth slapping some grease around the cable and pollen filter gaskets to make sure they're watertight.
