hi just had an bulb indicator on the dash board saying the side light bulb is off ,question is it much of a job to change,,,,,thanks

Simple. You need 1 x w5w 501 bulbs, some brute force, a choice selection of expletives and probably a blood transfusion for your hand injuries afterwards. You have to pull the holder harder than you'd expect but it's not too hard.

............as above not hard job just not a lot of room. Best thing i did was to get a good hold on the bulb holder as close to the rear of the light lens as possible & then just rock/twist & pull the holder & it will come out.DON'T try to remove it by pulling the wires.

I ended up using some pliers to get mine out as it just wouldnt budge otherwise.
-
so knowing my luck it will be a nightmare ,first aid kit at the ready then

.........have you done it?

Long nose pliers are great for this job. I still cut up my knuckles getting the driver's side one though

........did you remove the black filter box from it's holder ?.

Mine is only a 1.4 so the engine bay layout is a bit different. On my driver's side there was some...thing?... in the way, but it wasn't a filter box anyway. Looked like the power steering fluid reservoir on a mk3 but being honest I don't know what it was.

On the GTI its the fuel filter that gets in the way on the drivers side, Im guessing it will be the same on yours.
