Hi, my8v keeps stalling since i changed the head gasket. It runs well while driving around and idles at the correct speed (i think - <1k ish) but between gearchanges the revs drop down to about 500 before either coming back to idle or stalling (wife says never getting in car again). Does anyone know what might be calling this or can you recommend someone in york/selby that could take a look? I have had a few bad experiences with garages in york and would much prefer to spend my money on someone who knows what they are doing.
thanks

Top bloke - used to get him to do loads of work on various Golfs / Jettas before I started doing it myself. Still use him for MOTs though.

Did you plug the small plug on the throttle body back in?

Try Colin Hicks in York centre - VW specialist - my lads who live in York swear by them - both have Mk 3s but that's not their fault.

cheers for replies, been ill  for a couple of weeks but will check out the throttle body plug. How do I check the ISV?
Timing could be off - my mate who helped seemed alot more enthusiastic than knowledgable, but by the time I had made the tea most bits had been pulled off the engine :(
Roger Holmes is just down the road from my work so I think i'll nurse it down there.
cheers,

check idle switch clicks when throttle closed, make sure cable not too tight. also check the 2 pin plug on back of throttle body is plugged in as above, and the wires to it haven't snapped
