I'm afraid its probably the heater matrix matey. Hit the search button for more info.

It could be the coolant pressure relief valve thats knackered. Have a search on here for that and i'm sure it will lead you in the right direction.

The matrix's are known to fail on the mk2 arent they?! It did on both of my old ones. Maybe the thermostat if your lucky?

Check the heater pipes by squeezing them and listening for crunching. The pipes can fir up inside and restrict the flow. If the pipes are like that, then the matrix is sure to be the same.

If your car has the bypass valves they could be faulty..

More likely the matrix... Feel your passengerside carpet... If it sodden it's 99.999999999999999999999999999% matrix!!

Or 0.000000000000000000000000001% drooling over a 1.4 MKIII with 13 inch steels.

Would have to be alot longer than that before I even looked at a Mk3.... Without laffin and feeling sorry for the owner

Could just be a problem with the arm on the heater box. try moving it by hand and see if any more heat comes out.
Has any foam blown out your vents?

Thanks all
 carpets are dry
No foam coming from the vents etc
We are getting some heat its just luke warm. The fan seems to always be on when we park it up but we di have to go slow for a few miles as road bumps. Any way of testing the matrix

I had a friend who had a similar problem and his coolant level was low. A friend honest!

It'll be the bypass valves (the cylindrical things in the pipes just before they join the matrix engine bay side). Take them off and replace with two pieces of 22mm copper pipe, or if you are anal like rubjonny  get some mk3 pipes as these are complete without the cuts for the valves. Whilst you're doing it flush the heater matrix by putting a hose up the bottom pipe and letting it flow through and out the top pipe for a while. Also check the system is topped up properly as suggested above.

try running up to temp. *important* disconect the plug to the fan. stick you hand throught the fan. is the radiator hot? same heat all over?  if not could be an airlock/blockage.

touch the pipe at the top of the rad. it should be hot and pressurised.  now toucht he pipe at the bottom of the rad going to (from??) the waterpump. should feel the same. if not either faulty water pump or thermostat. that's as far as i got with mine. it was thermostat.

matrix is on the way though - car smells of coolant. i thought that was just the smell of a mk2

Have you replaced the thermostat check the bottom pipe off the water pump when hot see if all the pipes are hot if one part is colder it would be faulty thermostat
