Im doing some MSA training in a couple of weeks for road/rally marshalling and also fire fighting techniques. Quite looking forward to it and it seems a good way to get into events! Anyone else done it before or have any tips for me?!
-
Ha, you have to train to be a marshall! This is needed in the world of cycling, where its just a matter of persuading volunteers to sit on a hillside all day. Maybe with a radio.
Whats involved? is it just this course you have to do? First aid required also?

Well, I just got off the phone to the guy and he said that its just a day of basic training which involves a bit of first aid and fire fighting techniques. Apparently some of em did the Abhu Dhabi F1 last year and theyre doing Le Mans next time, sounds good to me!

As far as I've heard to be a marshall in f1 you need to work your way there. Start off marshalling small events and your local kart track and work your way up through the experience ladder. To be an f1 marshall you need a good experienced marshalling background, otherwise any geezer who didn't pay attention in class could be faced with an f1 fire.

Yeah, there is a grading system, you have to work your way up through the ranks. I doubt I'll be at the F1 next year but he did say that the GB rally would be a possibility.

Hi
If you go to the msa site wwwvolunteersinmotorsport.co.uk you will get all the information /help you will need .
Also www.britishrally.co.uk the forum is very good reading and gives info on what rallies etc are on .

I do a lot of rallying at the moment and most events are desperate for marshals, if im not doing an event i tend to marshal and its a good way to learn how events are run and you usually get a lot of apreciation for doing it. If i were you go on the britishrallyforum to see what events are on and find out who to contact to get involved, I usually marshal on rally gb and can be good fun and get a load of goodys

I always do the Boconnoc stage.
Tip number one. Always advise members of the public when clearing wreckage from a recently crashed car, that the pieces of exhuast are VERY HOT!!!
