Title: MK1 Tuned from Spain
Post by: mika16S on 15 November 2010, 12:35
Hi, here I am again to show you my golf mk1 GTI from 1981 that has been upgraded to be funner and i like to much how the project is going and I hope you like it too.

When I bought it, it doesn't seem in really good condition, it had a lot of damages in the outside panels and it need to be repainted so I take advantage of it and change the color of the car of other one to have a more exclusive car.

This is it when i bought it:

at first I started with the bodywork while the motor was been littlely upgraded.

The colour i chose was from the fiat catalogue and i selected this one because i had it on the first car I drove and i loved that colour, and the car looks like this:

Then was time to put in the new motor because i decided to change the 1.6 EG by a 1.8 KR and change the Ke-jetronic inyection by two 45DCOE weber to make it a litlle fastern.

Then I try to install the brake calipers and the problems started because i need 25mm separators because the rim touch the caliper, it shouldn't be a problem if the wheel doesn't touch the fender... so then i had to increase the width of the car.

i think the red bar is called stress bar in english and you can find it in ebay or in Sparco or omp dealers, there is another one that is better than this but it's to expensive and i just saw it in the USA, if you want more info I can look for it.

Looks very nice.
Understated, not over the top, actually I like it with the black plastic arches too, but you could do with a new front bumper.

The colour is very similar to my parents old Mk1 Jetta, but much more shiney.

thanks for the comments, the painting is done by Giugiaro and looks great on this car, also designed by Giugiaro.

I haven't change the front bumper because is better uso somthing like this one to take out the cars here in madrid traffic jams... when someone see my bumper automaticaly let me pass.

Very nice motor. How did you get that car through the ITV with that engine and those brakes? Did you have to get all your modifications inspected my a motor engineer to get them approved? I ask because when I lived there, I had huge troubles getting my Golf G60 through its ITV because of the brakes and suspension I fitted.
You may be interested in my build.

Here in Spain it's a real problem if you like cars and to modify it, as you said i had to talk with an engineer to homologate it and pass an specific ITV to see if the modifications has been made correctly and them you can drive your car. But for the next year i have ear that it's going to be no posibility of motor changes in cars... something stupid...
