I cannot get these to defrost at all.
The driver's door mirror has a vertically installed element, but the pasanger one does not.
I have both the Winter and Luxury packs.

Hmmmm strange, mine work fine ( and I need them every morning of the year according to you!)
Do you turn the dial to the correct setting up the top?

I take it your using the mirror heater controls on the door and not just assuming the button on the dash does the rear window and the door mirrors? I made that mistake on my Mk5 for about 3 years :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:

LOL I'm glad it wasn't just me then..... seriously I made this mistake on my Mk5 for 3 bloody years. I even got the dealer to check the car out when it was in for a service a couple of times and of course every time they said the mirror heaters were working perfectly. I had wrongly assumed they were just not very efficeint.
How emabarrasing, that's what happens when you don't read the manual. But us real men don't read manuals... we just like playing with our knobs (in the car that is)

I have to admit I have not read 99% of the manual. I only read it to find out where the tyre pressures were written.
Never noticed that they were written inside the flap! :embarassed:
I am a true Tyre Tart (TT)!

I remember working this out a while back  . I had to show a work mate how to get his mirrors to demist the other week on his mk6 too.

I can just see it now
Service manager - “oh no here he comes againâ€
AM1W- “good morning my good man I have yet another problem with my carâ€
Service manager-†I’m sorry to hear that sir, what seems to be the problem?â€
AM1W- “well the problem is my wing mirrors are not defrostingâ€
Service manager -â€have you tried turning the mirror heater control on? “
AM1W- “very good carry onâ€

Has anyone tried feeling the mirror glass to see if it gets hot, the mk5 ones did? Mine were stone cold today after 15mins of being on. Was a little dissappointed in there clearing capabilities, and the fact that all water attracts itself like a magent to the glass as it flies off the bottom and around to stick to it.
-
^yup, toasty after about 2 minutes!
-
My passenger side mirror was only luke warm to the touch & took a good 10 mins to fully clear. My driver side mirror was on the other hand toasty hot and frost free within minutes. Perhaps that's because the driver side mirror is nearer to the heated mirror switch :) LOL !!!

Put mine on this morning we had a heavy overnight frost and within seconds they were pretty warm, 1 minute down the line and they were red hot so yeah they work a treat, not sure about the knob to turn them on, it seems pretty wobbly to me.

Aye lad, but then Glen is a fine Scottish laddie just like myself (well not a laddie ) so all ladies are lassies and I am no offended, he has been very helpful with regard to winter tyres which I am having a complete nightmare sourcing by the way

Re: winter things, it is still quite warm here for the time of year, so I am lightly clothed in comparison to you I presume. Wolfgang is still wearing summer sandals, though he needs a bloody good scrub.

Yes Bonnie does too and she needs her tail pipes attending to forthwith but as we have a bitter cold wind to contend with she can go whistle

I must live on the sunny side...thank God I am not using the mirrorheaters yet.....each in due time...around xmas is quick enough for me ...
BTW I do hope Santa is bringing me a better "mirrorheaterknob" ...I hate to be in control of such a flimsy knob...

Interesting I suspect mine are not working then (they fold and move ok), do they power them selves down after a while or not?

That I don't know, I've not felt them after a trip out, just know they don't take long to heat up. I will give it a try tomorrow and report back.

I think they do unless you have the rear heater on.
