Title: Whirring noise from engine bay??
Post by: Timmyb on 14 November 2010, 23:12
Hello

I have a 130 GT TDI with 80K on the clock. Just noticed that whilst sitting idle I could hear a cyclic, pulsing whirring noise in addition to the general rumble of the diesel engine. It doesn't go when I depress the clutch and is still there if I put it in gear and move forward. Once up to full speed I cannot hear it (but presume this is becuase it is drowned out by road/engine noise).

Any suggestions would help.

Thanks
Tim

Could be any number of things, from tensioners, pulleys, belts, camshafts, air blowers etc....

A cautionary VAG-COM would be wise, and sticking your head in the engine bay to narrow down the area of the sound would also be a good idea.

Good luck mate, I get a very simialr sound on start up and when it's cold, but once it's warmed up I hear it alot less but kinda still there on idle.

Can you hear yours once the car is upto running temp?
