Title: Wiring issues.....nearly there now!!!
Post by: tonsofun on 13 November 2010, 22:01
Rubjonny has been fantastic on helping with this loom, including the essay written on the fuse box's! (just a little more help needed)

I have modified a loom, 'cut and shut' to get it all hidden out the way and removed alot of unnecessary wires for my mk2 golf.

The only faults now are...

The indicator relay buzzes (or ticks very fast) when the ignition is on and is not in use, When the indicators are on, or hazards it works fine, and hazards work with ignition off, so do the parking side lights with ignition off! Any ideas why or how, or what sort of fault i am looking for!?
Tried a different relay - no difference
Tried it with the indicator switch unplugged - no different
Tried it with the hazard switch unplugged - and that sorted it

Also the wipers work perfectly, but blows a fuse when i use intermittent, again any idea how, why or what i should be looking for on this!!!!!!!
Tried a different relay - no different

Any help is welcomed as always

Mark

try again with your dash disconnected. if the hazard relay doesnt buzz, its the indicator warning light somehow. check the blu/red wire from A17 to the dash. you only have 2 other wires to the relay, from A/10 and A/18, which go to the hazard switch and the indicator stalk. it could just be the hazard switch is bust, do you happen to have a spare?

with the wiper problem, try it with the motor unplugged, does it still blow?there are only 5 wires between indicator stalk and the motor to worry about. also does it still blow if the wiper relay is disconnected?

Ok, The dash on mine is non existent, all i have is a home made bracket holding the light, hazard and fog switch, the speedo part of dash (and only the speedo part) and some warning lights mounted on the bulk head!
It did seem like a good idea at the time, honest!!!

Anyway have looked and the red/blue wire for indicator warning lamp seems ok, but it then earths...should this go back to the loom somewhere!? would make sense (in my head anyway)

Haven't looked at the wipers yet, will do 1 problem at a time

Cheers again

the red/blue wire is the earth feed for the dash indicator warning bulb, dont earth this wire! if you do it will cause all kinds of problems as its also earths the relay to tell it to flash things ;)

So looks like i have the problem by the balls!!!!!!

However, if the red/blue wire goes to one side of the bulb, where should the other side go in order to create a circuit!

Rubjonny i am going to put a little 'special thanks to....' sticker on the car for this

it gets ign live feed from inside the dash :)

just ran a ign wire to the 'earth side' and all done, works perfectly!

Should any other of the warning light be wired in like this?

I have ignition warning lamp, and full beam warning lamp wired to earth!? i know the handbrake lamp isn't (made that mistake before)

Will get this put back in and the wires in, then hunt down the wiper problem.

Many thanks

handbrake gets an ignition live feed to 1 pin, other pin runs to the switch on the handbrake lever and also the switch on the fluid reservoir (switches ground to earth basically)
oil warning light gets an ignition live feed but you'll need to have the oil buzzer circuit fitted before it'll work
battery light has ignition live to 1 pin, the other pin runs all the way to the blue wire on the alternator. you need to have this hooked up otherwise the alternator wont charge properly!
main beam lamp has an earth to 1 pin, the other pin is connected to one of the main beam wires

Got all the Indicators wired in and working properly now, and the dash warning lights too.

Still having problems with the wiper motor, the fuse still keeps blowing, with or without the relay in, and with or without the motor connected. Any ideas, all the wiring looks fine, no obvious shorts or missed wires. 4 the wires to the switch had continuity between them, but all looked fine.

Any ideas?

Cheers

All sorted now, actually fixed a problem all on my own! turned out to be 2 wires (1 brown earth, and 1 brown with black tracer) soldered back to front. All fixed, checked, and fitted now, and everything works.

Thanks for all your help rubjonny, much appreciated
